Responsibilities

  • Receive incoming warehouse items and equipment: pick up items for designated locations and upload from the conveyances, check items for serviceability, and check items against packing list and purchase order for description, quantity and price.
  • Place items in bins or bulk storage areas and note on inventory cards any changes in item location, quantity, and price.
  • Receive work order and assemble items in holding area, prepare issue forms for self-service and other warehouse items, and note on inventory cards changes in quantity, date of issue, and order numbers.
  • Load supply items on trucks, vans, and other vehicles for transport to work site for reshipment, ensure that all vehicles are properly loaded, items are identified, and documentation is complete.
  • Maintain a variety of warehousing related files and prepare various reports.
  • Operate motor vehicles with an approximately 5 ton capacity and may be equipped with air brakes to pick up and transport warehouse materials and supplies between commercial vendors in the surrounding area, the warehouse, and/or user work sites.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Materials Handler (FLO/MVO) without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform the full range of Materials Handler (FLO/MVO) duties such as receiving incoming warehouse items and equipment by picking up items from designated locations and unloading them from the conveyances, checking items for serviceability and obvious damage, noting discrepancies and notifying the supervisor or office supply personnel, placing items in bins or bulk storage areas in accordance with pre-designated locations, noting on inventory cards any changes in item location, quantity, and price, receiving work orders and assembling items in holding area, preparing issue forms for self-service and other warehoused items, loading supply items on trucks, vans, and other vehicles for transport to work site for reshipment, and ensuring that all vehicles are properly loaded, that items are identified, and that documentation is complete. Skilled in operating electric, gasoline, or diesel powered fork lifts. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Perform work on hard surfaces and in work areas that require the worker to stand, stoop, bend and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May be required to work at a rapid pace for long periods of time. Moderate physical effort is used in operating hand and foot controls when driving, turning, stopping and starting the forklift and motor vehicles and raising, lowering and tilting the forklift loads. When operating large forklifts over rough terrain, extra physical effort may be required due to equipment vibrations.
  • Work inside in areas that are hot, cold, drafty and poorly lighted and ventilated. May work in adverse weather in such outside areas as open docks and storage yards subject to exposure to dust, dirt and weather from cold to hot temperatures. Cuts, bruises and broken bones may result from shifting loads, toppling stacks, falling objects or accidents with other moving equipment.


Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
