The American Academy of Actuaries, a 19,500+ member national professional organization whose mission is to serve the public and the U.S. actuarial profession, is seeking candidates for the position of Casualty Policy Analyst to serve as primary staff support for the Academy’s property/casualty policy work. The Casualty Policy Analyst will work to further the Academy’s purpose to assist in the formulation of sound public policy through an objective, independent, and nonpartisan approach.

Responsibilities of this key position include:

  • Facilitating the development of public policy statements, including issue briefs and public comments to stakeholders relating to property/casualty insurance issues;
  • Identifying and monitoring relevant property/casualty legislation and regulations at the federal and state levels of importance to the public, the Academy’s members and the actuarial profession and coordinating appropriate action on those concerns;
  • Building relationships with policymakers, regulators and other decision-makers to increase recognition of the actuarial profession’s value in the property/casualty policy sector. Provide staff support for the Casualty Practice Council and related work groups, including drafting meeting minutes, developing agendas, tracking projects, and coordinating volunteer members’ activities.

Bachelor’s degree required. Three to four years of association or private sector-comparable work desired.  Strong project management skills required. Candidates should have strong organizational skills and be able to multi-task. Experience with or knowledge of casualty insurance issues preferred, with a background in regulatory/legislative or related public policy desired.  Government experience a plus.
