This position is located in the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Consumer Education & External Affairs Division, Office of Consumer Response. Consumer Response intakes and addresses or refers consumer complaints; addresses consumer inquiries regarding the basic aspects of consumer financial products and services.

The following are the duties at the CN-52 level. (Equivalent to the GS-12). If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
The major duties of this position include:
  • Representing Consumer Response within CFPB as an expert on consumer complaint reporting.
  • Serving as a secondary point of contact for CFPB stakeholders (i.e., Consumer Response Associate Director, Consumer Response Section Chiefs, and Consumer Response Managers and their peers in other CFPB offices) regarding Consumer Response data and reporting.
  • Offering input into the prioritization and assignment of requests for report estimates and development, and data analysis. Provides progress reports on assigned items, quantitative and qualitative feedback, and recommendations for improvement to management.
  • Adhering to and monitoring adherence to the process for requesting information and reports from Consumer Response.

Specialized Experience for the CN-40 level: To qualify at CN-40, you must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the CN-30 level in the Federal service. (For qualification purposes, the CN-30 level is broadly equivalent to the GS-07 level). For this position, specialized experience may be defined as:
  • Experience developing analytical deliverables (e.g., data visualizations, dashboards, statistical analyses, or research);AND
  • Ability to work with limited guidance, manage conflicting priorities, and communicate both verbally and in writing; AND
  • Experience in operating a variety of desktop software to prepare correspondence, reports, spreadsheets, graphs, and memorandum.


You may substitute education for general or specialized experience as follows: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related.


You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. This is creditable providing the combination consists of 100% of the requirement. Only graduate level education in excess of the first 18 semester hours (27 quarter hours) may be combined to be considered for qualifying education.

NOTE: The experience may have been gained in either the public or private sector. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.

Recent graduates who have completed, within the previous two years, a qualifying associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution.
Applicants who have completed the degree requirements and graduation dates between December 27, 2010 and July 10, 2012 are permitted to apply under an exception to the Pathways regulations.
A veteran, who, due to a military service obligation, was precluded from applying to the Recent Graduates Program during any portion of the 2-year eligibility period shall have a full 2-year period of eligibility upon his or her release or discharge from active duty. In no event, however, may the individual's eligibility period extend beyond 6 years from the date on which the individual completed the requirements of an academic course of study.

Recent Graduates may be converted to a permanent position (or, in some limited circumstances a term appointment lasting 1-4 years).
To be eligible for conversion, Recent Graduates must have:
  • Successfully completed at least 1-year of continuous service in addition to all requirements of the Program.
  • Demonstrated successful job performance.
  • Met the qualifications for the position to which the Recent Graduate will be converted.


This appointment is being filled under the Pathways Program.
The Recent Graduates Program provides individuals, who have recently graduated from qualifying educational institutions or programs, with developmental opportunities in the Federal Government. Participants must have obtained a degree, or completed a qualifying career or technical education program within the preceding 2 years. Upon successful completion of the program, if you are a United States citizen, the Bureau may noncompetitively convert a Recent Graduate to a permanent position, or in some circumstances a term appointment in the competitive service.
