GENERAL SUMMARY The Preconstruction Engineer (PE) is responsible for managing multiple projects from the date of award through the submittal process and works with members of the Preconstruction Team and Project Management Teams to assure timely turnover of all submittals to the PM teams. This includes review of architectural drawings, specifications, and details as they relate to the installation of our contracted scope off work, review of budgets and selection of vendors, and preparation, revision & review of shop drawings and submittal packages, KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Review and determine constructability and availability of all products, materials and details related to the installation of our contracted scope of work. Identify expected delivery dates of shop drawings & submittals, identify possible issues, and relate this information to Project management Teams. Identify possible conflicts of specified materials and construction details. Review of KGa shop drawings before turnover to the Project Managers. Review submittal documents and samples for accuracy with the Preconstruction Administrator. Review Estimator's budget and Initiate and finalize project's bill of materials. Respond to contractor, vendor, and staff inquiries. Oversee and coordinate all tasks of the Preconstruction Administrator. Work to increase knowledge of a variety of glass types, glazing techniques and specialty products used by KGa. Preconstruction Engineer will be OSHA 10 certified. SPECIFIC DUTIES Review all construction documents and NTP scope of newly awarded projects for accuracy upon turnover from Estimating Team. Review assigned projects to verify accuracy of scope of new work and establish critical path milestones and establish action plans and schedules and Oversight of production of KGa shop drawings, review specifications to determine a complete submittal package. Work closely with Preconstruction Team members to track acquisition and distribution of samples, files and other information required to complete submittal process on schedule. File all digital files in job folders and/or ComputerEase data base. Review all details related to the installation of our contracted items, preparation & review of shop drawings, and establishing the bill of materials. Review revisions and bulletins to contract documents throughout the submittal process to establish scope, timeline, and cost impact. Compose RFI's as needed to clarify scope and installation issues. Write door & hardware schedules, review for accuracy and compatibility with local laws, and collect hardware cut sheets to compose hardware submittal packages. Prepare financial information to be related to the Finance Department regarding budgets & deposit requirements. Notify all team members of potential delays throughout the submittal process. Occasional site visits may be necessary to understand the existing conditions of any given project. You may be called on to accompany other staff for that purpose. Respond to contractor, vendor, and staff inquiries. KEY REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a high level of organization and technical knowledge of glass types and manufacturers, glass and glazing systems, metal finishes, general door hardware function, and construction terminology. Experience in glass & glazing is preferable. Ability to think creatively and independently through constructability challenges. INTERACTIONS WITHIN COMPANY: Direct Supervisor is Director of Preconstruction. Attend weekly 1:1 meeting with Director of Preconstruction. Attend weekly meeting with Preconstruction Team. Attend various KGa, Team and Project Management meetings as scheduled. PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of the job the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle or feel while typing at a computer keyboard. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee exerts up to 20lbs of force occasionally, and or/or up to 10lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible about of force constantly to move objects. Vision requirements include the ability to see at 20 inches or less. Work is performed in an office environment.
