The lab addresses some of the most urgent and intractable problems in the biomedical sciences in cancer and AIDS, drug development and first-in-human clinical trials, applications of nanotechnology in medicine, and rapid response to emerging threats of infectious diseases. Position Overview: ROGRAM DESCRIPTION The Cancer Research Technology Program (CRTP) develops and implements emerging technology, cancer biology expertise and research capabilities to accomplish NCI research objectives. The CRTP is an outward-facing, multi-disciplinary hub purposed to enable the external cancer research community. A major focus of the CRTP is the NCI RAS Initiative with the goal to discover new therapeutic interventions against RAS-driven cancers. In addition, the CRTP hosts the Nanotechnology Characterization Laboratory (NCL) which performs and standardizes preclinical efficacy and toxicity testing of nanoparticles intended for cancer therapeutics and diagnostics, and the Antibody Characterization Lab (ACL) which characterizes monoclonal antibodies or other renewable affinity binding reagents for use in cancer related research. CRTP scientists also work collaboratively with intramural NCI investigators to provide research technologies and expertise. KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES The Mass Spectrometry Proteomics Scientist will: * Develop, validate and implement mass spectrometry-based protein assays to support various projects, including drug discovery and development * Manage a proteomics research pilot with an emphasis on both targeted and global proteomics experiments * Operate and maintain state-of-the-art LC-MS instruments, and ensure high-quality data generation * Complete comprehensive data analysis using variety of different methods and software * Develop new mass spectrometry and data analytical methods * Summarize and present key results at project review meetings and contribute and write manuscripts for per review publications BASIC QUALIFICATIONS * Possession of a Ph.D. degree in biochemistry, analytical chemistry or other related discipline from an accredited college or university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education). * Knowledge or experience with mass spectrometry proteomics * Strong theoretical understanding of both global and targeted mass spectrometry proteomics and bioinformatic methods to interpret and validate findings * Solid understanding of separation chemistry for proteins/peptides analysis with an experience of nano-flow HPLC/UPLC * Extensive experience in instrumentation, trouble shooting, QC, standardization for proteomics workflow * Experience using MS software suites for proteomics workflow analysis * Must be able to obtain and maintain a clearance PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * 2 years of related post-graduate experience in mass spectrometry proteomics * Experience performing immuno-MRM experiments * Experience performing global proteomics experiments * Experience with immunoprecipitation * Familiarity with CLIA requirements and assay validation JOB HAZARDS * This position is subject to working with or have potential for exposure to animal(s) and/or animal material(s) * This position is subject to working with or have potential for exposure to infectious material, requiring medical clearance and immunizations Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE) | Minority/Female/Disabled/Veteran (M/F/D/V) | Drug Free Workplace (DFW) #readytowork
