Temporarily remote through the close of the COVID-19 pandemic POSITION SUMMARY The Marine Technology Society (MTS) serves nearly 2,000 marine technologists from industry, government, and academia from 39 countries. As the Director of Marketing, Communications, and Membership, you will be part of a dynamic society advancing marine technology development and research. MTS offers members networking opportunities through meetings and conferences, opportunities to publish research in the peer-reviewed MTS Journal, and volunteer leadership experiences. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director of Marketing, Communications, and Membership will play a pivotal role implementing initiatives that attract new members, retain current members and enhance benefits and foster member engagement, and in communicating all MTS activities. In collaboration with the Executive Director and the MTS Vice President of Communications, the Director of Marketing, Communications, and Membership will develop materials to deliver MTS' messages to a wide range of audiences, including, but not limited to society membership, external stakeholders, and the media; implement and evaluate initiatives to improve communications to and between members; implement and evaluate initiatives to improve service and quality for members, both individual and corporate; and manage the day-to-day processing of all membership records. This includes the following essential functions: Marketing & Communications Develop and execute communications strategy (cross-media) and campaigns. Lead the development of content for both print and Web, including brochures, newsletters, & social media. Compile, edit, and curate content for the MTS website and Section/Committee websites. Edit all society communications prior to distribution. Lead implementation of all social media posts. Lead development of Society presentations, such as the Annual Meeting and General Briefing. Prepare and distribute press releases. Serve as contact for media inquiries. Monitor and report on key metrics related to communications. Support high-quality graphic design of promotional materials, advertising, and media materials. Support MTS meetings as needed. Organize and serve as "behind the scenes host" for online webinars. Membership Conduct all activities related to MTS member acquisition, onboarding, retention, dues structure, multi-channel renewal and communications needed to achieve MTS' Strategic Plan and organizational membership goals. Act as the main point of contact for members. Maintain the integrity of the membership database, generate and process renewal notices. Support and develop new, proactive programs to increase membership and further engage existing members. Develop and support renewal and recruitment campaigns, as well as define targets and audiences. Communicate member needs, services, and pertinent information for website, newsletters, and other communication vehicles. Monitor and report on key metrics related to membership and generate reports to inform engagement strategy. Produce accurate lists of members and membership segments, upon request, for use by other staff members. Develop membership marketing and promotional materials, including applications, welcome kits and other collateral. Work with bookkeeping and accounting staff on bi-weekly reconciliation of membership dues. Other duties as assigned. WRITING SAMPLE A writing sample is required with application to the position. The writing sample should reflect recent work and/or relevant content. For example: Op-ed, news article, blog post, or similar content preferred. Minimum 250 words. The final interview may require you to submit a timed writing sample. ADA SPECIFICATIONS Must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out complex, multi-step instructions and make appropriate independent decisions as necessary. Regularly required to sit, frequently required to reach with hands and arms, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or hear. Must be able to lift objects up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Work mostly in a typical office setting with quiet to moderate noise level.
