Summary

About the Position: Serves as the Computer Assistant in the Information Management Office (IMO), The United States Army Aviation Brigade (TAAB), a multi-component, within and outside the continental United States, Department of the Army.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate user's needs, researches Internet for industry reviews and articles on possible solutions.
  • Install microcomputer Basic Input Output Systems (BIOS) and other hardware or related programs as manufacturers release upgrades and fixes.
  • Sets up new PCs with the Windows operating system.
  • Install Microsoft office applications, Department of Defense (DoD) support software, and software necessary to support the use of devices such as printers, scanners, copiers and Fax etc.
  • Resolve interface and operational problems raised by users of the system and attends training on system updated in order to pass on instructions to system users.
  • Establish and maintain network, e-mail and flight scheduling accounts for all agency automation system users.
  • Administer the Hand Receipt for the Information Management Office.
  • Develop program of instruction and provides annual training to system users.

Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position by military or commercial aircraft for this position approximately 10% of the time.

  • Required to complete the appropriate training and obtain the required certification/recertification for this position as outlined in DoD Publication 8570.01-M, Information Assurance Workforce Improvement Program, within 12 months of appointment.
  • May be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Pre-employment and annual physical required while in the position.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: monitoring ongoing operations of network systems to ensure hardware and software are functioning properly and operational standards are met; identifying and determining corrective action to be taken for individual job failures not covered by standard procedures; providing technical assistance to users to minimize computer disruptions; and providing customer training and assistance for new computer systems, software, etc. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07). Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements and minimum qualification requirements prescribed by OPM within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.

Education

Some Federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone - no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
