As an Machinist / Mechanical Engineer, you'll design and develop in such areas that you'll test your skill and knowledge each and every day by working with the best of the best.What you bring to the table:Ten years of machining experience (a technical or college degree of any kind should not substitute for actual years worked in a machine shop).A Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering preferred but not required, a related specialized area or field and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience or a Master's degree and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experienceThe candidate should have a strong ability to "back engineer" parts-recreate working components from only a sample or 3D-printed piece.A working knowledge of all shop tools and equipment.Proficiency on manual mills and lathes.CNC milling experience is a must. The candidate must have familiarity with FANUC or Haas controls, or be able to learn to use the controls within a week. It is preferred that the applicant also have at least some CNC lathe experience as well.The candidate should be competent with a CAD software package, preferably SolidWorks.Candidates should possess a high degree of skill working with CAD assemblies and the ability to troubleshoot and correct fit and motion-related issues with the various components.Mastery of three-axis milling with an advanced CAM software. Esprit is preferred, but other CAM packages such as MasterCAM and NX are acceptable.Experience on 4-axis and 5-axis machines Candidates should have the ability to design and manufacture work-holding fixtures for machining operations.The following skills are helpful but not required:Precision sheet metal experience is extremely helpful for this position, particularly knowledge with stretch-out, bend deductions & allowances, shop math & trigonometry, and forming.TIG & MIG welding experience.Program and operation of waterjets.A machining apprenticeship, technical degree or associate degree in engineering technology.Wire EDM experience.CNC Turn/Mill experience.The ability to write and troubleshoot CAM postprocessors.#CB#CJ3 Company Overview General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) engineers a diverse portfolio of high technology solutions, products and services that enable customers to successfully execute missions across all domains of operation.
