St. Mary's is a parish of 700 families in Hagerstown, MD with a Catholic school enrollment of 190 and active Religious Education and RCIA programs. The Parish was established in 1758 and upholds the Church's tradition in teaching and in praxis. The Church was built in 1826 and features a 3-manual Allen Renaissance R-370 digital pipe organ. St. Mary's is currently hiring three related positions: Director of Sacred Music, Organist, and Music Teacher. St. Mary's will consider candidates who are interested in one or more of the positions. St. Mary's will adjust the titles, job descriptions, hours, and statuses as appropriate if a single candidate is hired for multiple positions. The Director of Sacred Music (DSM) is a part-time position, supervised by and working closely with the Pastor. The DSM coordinates the liturgical music program for the parish and serves as choir director. The DSM supervises the Organist and collaborates closely with the Music Teacher on School-related liturgies. The DSM is also responsible for coordinating all liturgical ministries. The Organist is responsible for organ music, both solo and accompanying, that promotes full and conscious participation of the faithful, in accordance with the tradition of the Church. The Music Teacher is responsible, primarily, for the effective design and implementation of a general music program for grades K-5 and a chorus for grades 3-8. The program should promote full and conscious participation of students and be in accordance with the Catholic classical tradition.
