We are seeking a Space Mechanical Engineer to join our team located in Beltsville, Maryland. The Engineer will be involved in the development of space mechanisms such as robotic tools, fluid couplings, instrument mechanisms and spacecraft deployables, and / or spacecraft and instrument structures and ground support equipment. They will work on requirements and concept development, detailed design and perform hands-on prototype evaluation in the lab. The engineer will create work instructions and support assembly and test of flight hardware. They will present their designs to NG stakeholders and customers in design reviews, and support the integration of their hardware into instruments and spacecraft. Experience with component design and assembly management using 3D CAD software. Experience with common methods for the analysis of mechanical components and structures. Familiarity with commonly used materials (metallic and composite), processes, fasteners, mechanical components (actuators, bearings, gears etc.), connectors, wiring, etc. Familiarity with common additive and conventional metallic and composite manufacturing processes. Experience with the assembly and test of mechanical and / or electro-mechanical devices. Preferred Qualifications: MS degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline Experience with the development, integration and test of space flight mechanisms, structures and / or optomechancial devices. Experience with CREO Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) using NASTRAN and FEMAP software. Proficiency with ASME Y14.5 geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). Experience with the generation of work orders, assembly procedures and test plans for mechanical and electro-mechanical hardware integration and test (functional, vibration, thermal/vacuum etc.).
