Job Announcement

The Fairfax County Health Department is a progressive public health leader providing services that promote population health, protect public health and the environment, and ensure residents' equitable access to health services and information.

Provides the day to day administrative support for operations in the department, program or local office setting. Assures accuracy of fiscal operations, records management, and supports routine administrative functions in the workplace setting. Orients new personnel and provides training updates in new procedures. Under the direction or in the absence of the Administrative Assistant V, assumes responsibility for site management functions and collaborates with other professionals at the worksite to coordinate services delivery to implement agency procedures. May supervise administrative staff and related work activities in an office.

Note: The assigned functional areas of the position are general office administration, receptionist/public contact, and information systems/software.


Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to high school graduation and four years of experience providing administrative support in the assigned functional area(s).

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Not applicable.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Three years or more years of experience as an administrative assistant with at least two years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience providing administrative support for operations in a high volume clinic or healthcare office setting.
  • Experience with third party billing, database maintenance, filing systems and scheduling.
  • Must have a high level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information and professionalism in dealing with customers and colleagues.
  • Position requires the candidate to work independently and in a team environment, be proactive, exercise good judgment, use critical thinking skills, be highly organized and have excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent customer services skills with the ability to interact in a friendly, service-oriented and professional manner with internal and external customers.
  • Excellent computer skills in the use of various office computer software such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to the position must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check, a child protective services check and a sanction screening. Tuberculosis test.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Job is generally sedentary in nature, however, employee is required to walk, stand, sit, bend, kneel, reach, climb stairs and carry up to 25 pounds in weight. Uses hands to grasp, handle or feel. Visual acuity is required to read data on a computer monitor. Ability to operate keyboard driven equipment. Ability to drive a vehicle. Position frequently communicates and must be able to exchange accurate information with others verbally and in writing.All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
SELECTION PROCEDURE:
Panel interview and may include a practical exercise.
