A Wider Circle is seeking a Senior Family Engagement Specialist to work with parents and families at our Washington Highlands center in Southeast DC.In December 2019, A Wider Circle was awarded a contract from the DC Child and Family Services Agency to develop and implement a Family Success Center in the Washington Highlands neighborhood under the umbrella of the Families First DC program. This position is one that is assigned to the Family Success Center in Washington Highlands, and is a core part of the team implementing the scope of work under that contract.The Senior Family Engagement Specialist will support the implementation of activities related to the five protective factors for family success (parental resilience, social connections, knowledge of parenting and child development, concrete support in times of need, and social and emotional competence of children). This position includes working with families both directly and in coordination with partners.Qualified applicants will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to express ideas clearly, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate must also be able to work sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse educational, socio-economic, and cultural backgrounds.This position reports directly to A Wider Circles Project Director for the Families First DC program.As soon as it is safe to do so, the individual will work on-site at A Wider Circles Washington Highlands office. Once on-site work begins, the schedule for this position will include four weekdays and a Saturday.ResponsibilitiesCoordinate and lead parent and two-generation activities in a variety of areas, including stress reduction, parent and caregiver education, and developmental milestone workshopsRecruit and enroll families for parenting programsDevelop social support networks for parents through mentoring and social groupsProvide case management for a select cohort of clients particularly those involved in parent education programmingDevelop and implement strategy for utilizing a wide array of partnerships with community-based organizations, programmatic partners, corporations, governmental agencies, and cultural institutionsCollect, input, and monitor data, and develop reports or case studiesUtilize A Wider Circle networks, partners, knowledge, and volunteers to build engagement and multi-sector involvement as we kick off the Family Success Center.Participate directly in neighborhood and community collaboratives and initiatives on behalf of A Wider CircleQualificationsBachelors degree from an accredited college or university in social work or a related field; such as counseling, psychology, or education.Two years of experience working with low income families, preferably in an urban settingAt least four years of experience working in nonprofit, human services, or education settingTwo or more years of experience developing, carrying out, and evaluating trainings, workshops, or other programmingExperience connecting families with community assistance resources, including resources related to eviction or homelessness, domestic violence, drug abuse, unemployment, and literacy issues.Additional qualifications include the ability to effectively use Microsoft Office and GSuite programs. Familiarity with Apricot and/or NOWPOW software is also a plus.In the event that an offer is extended, the candidate will be required to successfully complete a criminal background check and/or FBI fingerprinting, as well as other screening as applicable for the position or required by the funding agency.Salary for the position is commensurate with experience.
