About UsOne Common Unity (OCU) breaks cycles of violence and builds compassionate, healthy communities through the transformative power of music, arts, and peace education. Founded in 2000 following a string of school shootings in Washington, DC, OCU is a collaborative effort between educators, artists, and health practitioners dedicated to preventing violence and improving life outcomes for youth and families. Currently based in 23 schools throughout DC, we train the next generation of youth leaders in social-emotional literacy, arts expression, and conflict transformation and support them to create positive social change and healing in their communities. Over the past 20 years, we have impacted over 32,500 youth and families, trained over 11,500 teachers, hosted 82 public concerts and performances, and recently were awarded the Mayors Arts Award for Excellence in the Humanities.About YouWe are looking for an experienced nonprofit Marketing and Communications Manager who is excited to bring their high energy and experience to help us create a brand as strong as One Common Unitys mission.Qualifications: A Bachelors degree At least two years relevant work experience developing and implementing communications strategies across multiple platforms A commitment to and understanding of One Common Unitys mission, including a basic understanding of the role that education and the arts can play in social change A commitment to social justice, racial justice, experience with cultural humility, and comfort working with people from diverse backgrounds/different from oneself Outstanding interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills Problem-solver and self-starter, with strong time management skills Demonstrated knowledge of communications, marketing, media relations, and social media Proven ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative connections with individuals from diverse backgrounds including colleagues, community members, volunteers, program participants, and donors Experience working with and managing external vendors Personal qualities of emotional maturity, humility, strong work ethic, and a roll-up-my-sleeves attitude Familiarity with database systems and online social networks; experience with Salesforce and Mailchimp a plusAbout the JobThis key position is responsible for creating and implementing all of the organizations marketing and branding materials, public relations strategies, and communications. While this position is currently virtual, it will eventually be based in our Washington DC offices. Responsibilities include:Marketing & Branding Maintain and strengthen OCUs brand and ensure it aligns with the organizations vision and values; Develop and implement a strategic marketing plan for One Common Unity; Create plans for marketing our curriculum, programs, and trainings; Manage OCUs website, social media presence, online video content and new releases, including working with outside consultants to implement strategic campaigns; Coordinate the design of materials and collateral for special events, showcases, and new program launches (invitations, programs, postcards, signage, etc.); Direct art and marketing campaigns with the aim of promoting programs and events; Coordinate creative briefs, directing the creative process held before launching new programs, curriculum, and services; Oversee the use of logos and other marketing assets to guarantee the corporate identitys consistency throughout all programs and services;Public Relations and Outreach Build partnerships with community organizations, networks, and other relevant parties on a local and national level; Foster and maintain positive relationships with partners, including serving as a point of contact; Produce engaging and motivating content for local and national press outlets, the OCU website and blogs, including supervising outside PR firms to support this effort; Write quarterly impact reports, updates for community partners, blogs, and curate social media posts; Develop and send e-newsletters and e-blasts in Salesforce and Mailchimp; Identify and facilitate opportunities to increase the visibility of OCU through participation in community and media events, conferences, and advocacy events; Represent OCU at community events, meetings and conferences;Other Maintain accurate files/records and up-to-date organizational data; Prepare regular reports for Executive and Managing Directors; Support the Development Team with outreach to sponsors for special events and programs; Support the Development Team in the cultivation of individual donors; Assist with other outreach and communications duties as needed.Physical Requirement of the JobThe environmental factors and/or physical requirements of this position include the following: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard. The employee frequently is required to be in one position for long periods of screen use, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear both in person and over devices. The employee interacts in close spaces and frequently with other workers, vendors, and clients.
