COVID Team Nurse Practitioner

About the Department: Student Health Services (SHS) provides health care services at George Mason University (GMU). SHS provides primary care services and health promotion to eligible students at GMU, including but not limited to initial and follow up assessment, history taking, physical exam of patients, utilization of differential diagnosis, appropriate interventions, consultations and referrals as indicated, and basic emergency treatment and stabilization. Staff provide services to faculty, staff, and visitors on an as needed basis.

About the Position: The purpose of the Nurse Practitioner is to promote excellence in patient care, support and facilitate professional growth and development, and uphold standards of professionalism and the mission of Student Health Services. This position will be focused on providing COVID clinical management to patients, including weekend and holiday coverage via telehealth.

Responsibilities: * Evaluate and manage students via phone and telehealth that are diagnoses with COVID-19 or suspected of having COVID-19; * Consult, refer and collaborate with both University and Community providers and resources involved in providing health care services to students with confirmed of suspected COVID-19; * Perform, order, interpret and manage pertinent laboratory results; * Participate in and contribute to risk management activities including, but not limited to, prompt reporting of events that jeopardize licensure and/or status with the National Practitioner Data Bank; * Collaborate with the Insurance Coordinator, all Student Health Services staff and other pertinent Mason staff; * Incorporate knowledge of the relevance of cultural issues and background of students when developing, implementing and evaluating individual plans of care as well as programs and policies. Required Qualifications: * MSN from an accredited school of nursing; * Completion of an accredited NP Program; * Certification as an NP; * Valid Virginia RN license; * Valid autonomous Virginia NP license; * Valid Virginia Authorization to Prescribe; * Valid DEA License; * Demonstrated experience with COVID10 testing and procedures.
