Senior Grants Administrator

The George Mason University Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) seeks to hire a dynamic and collaborative individual for a Senior Grants Administrator position. As part of the Office of Sponsored Programs, the Senior Grants Administrator serves a critical role in supporting research activities at George Mason by facilitating and coordinating with sponsors, university faculty, departments, and central offices, and providing expertise within the OSP, to ensure the successful administration of externally sponsored funding.

Responsibilities: * Independently manages proposals from request for assistance from faculty, through submission of the proposal to sponsor; * Assists Principal Investigator's (PI's) in the development, preparation, and submission of grant and contract proposals, including the accurate development of budgets and budget justification; * Ensures costs are allowable, appropriate rates are applied, cost share issues are resolved and there is budget and budget justification prior to submission to the sponsor; * Advises the PI on budget adjustments and revisions necessary to meet sponsor requirements and adherence to university policies; * Monitors compliance with sponsor and university regulations regarding submission; verifies all financial information to include application of the appropriate overhead rate for the project; * Ensures all applications meet agency and university guidelines and published time tables and deadlines; * Confers with PI and college/department staff at collaborating institutions to secure necessary sub-award documents for proposals; * Reviews proposals for consistency with sponsor guidelines on budget, format, font size, and page limits excluding narrative content (obtain and review sponsor guidelines); * Resolves problems in proposal development through consultation with internal and external resources; * Performs review of team members' proposals to ensure proposals meet federal, sponsor, and university guidelines; * Serves as subject matter expert for team members within OSP and for faculty and staff in colleges; * Performs award set up and modification set up, to include reviewing Notices of Award and ensuring compliance with IRB, IACUC, lab safety, conflict of interest, and other sponsor and university requirements, policies, and procedures; * Assists with sponsor prior approvals, budgeting, and other post award actions.

Required Qualifications: * Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and sponsor rules and regulations related to grants and contracts; * Knowledge of federal regulations pertaining to sponsored research; * Experience with budget development; * Experience with all types of award mechanisms, including grants, contracts, subcontracts, and cooperative agreements; * Willingness to maintain knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply sponsor, institutional, and departmental policies; * Strong attention-to-detail and ability to multitask; * Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills; * Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders (or demonstrated ability to perform in a collaborative work environment); * Ability to manage high-volume and complex transactions; * Highly developed oral and written communication skills; * Strong organizational skills; * Experience working on sponsored awards in a university, nonprofit, or private sector setting.

Preferred Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or a related field of study, is strongly preferred; * Candidates with a CRA (Certified Research Administrator) certification are further preferred; * Computer skills that include experience with Microsoft Office, financial management systems including Banner, and electronic grant administration is highly desirable; * Experience in a team environment is highly desirable.

Candidates must be: A citizen of the United States, a person who is a lawful permanent resident of the United States (a "Green Card" holder), a person who is a "protected individual" as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or a person who is otherwise able to become generally eligible to receive unclassified technical data pursuant to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations.
