Procurement Specialist

The George Mason University National Center for Biodefense and Infectious Diseases (NCBID), within the College of Science, is seeking candidates for the position of Procurement Specialist. The researchers at the NCBID are leaders in the areas of biotechnology, biodefense and the life sciences. Researchers focus on developing broad spectrum drugs against bioterrorism and newly emerging or reemerging infectious diseases. The work is supported by students and scientific staff in laboratories housed on Mason's Science and Technology (formerly Prince William) campus in Manassas, VA.

Responsibilities: The incumbent will support NCBID operations through the procurement of both goods and services, and fiscal support. The incumbent is responsible for purchasing lab supplies, equipment, maintenance and service agreements; and consultant agreements for the NCBID in accordance with established university purchasing guidelines. Additional duties include providing support for limited Finance tasks. This position also serves as the NCBID Equipment Liaison and assists with the annual inventory audit.

The selected candidate will maintain detailed Microsoft Excel purchasing logs and procurement records, and will work collaboratively with the BRL (Biomedical Research Laboratory) Fiscal and Grants Specialist to ensure all purchases are allowable, allocable and within budget. This position ensures that purchasing takes place in a timely and efficient manner, and in accordance with established purchasing guidelines and procedures.

Required Qualifications: * Completion of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience; * Excellent attention to detail, organization and customer service skills; * Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Office suite and internet applications; * Ability to work effectively with individuals from a variety of diverse backgrounds; * Ability to troubleshoot and improvise solutions when necessary; * Ability to coordinate confidential and highly sensitive projects; * Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines; * Ability to maintain excellent working relationships with colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications: * Undergraduate degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field; * Experience with purchasing and credit card expenditure processing; * Knowledge of Ellucian Banner, Oracle products, and/or MicroStrategy; * Experience working in a large public institution; * Experience working with state policies and procedures; * Experience planning, scheduling and executing operational projects to meet clients' needs.
