Job Title: Analytical ChemistDepartment: Advanced Bioprocessing R&D, BioProduction DivisionLocation: Hunt Valley, MarylandDuration: 6 Month ContractPay Rate: $26/hrJob Description:Position Summary:We are searching for a Scientist I, who will focus on analytical chemistry to perform sample preparation and/or trace elements analysis by single cell ICP-MS, as well as perform other analytical assays designed to address issues in cell culture media development and production. Under the supervision of the R&D manager or senior scientists, the Scientist I will collect and prepare samples and participate in the single cell ICP-MS experiment. In addition, the Scientist I will have the opportunity to perform other analytical assays and learn other analytical technologies in the lab, such as HPLC/HPLC-MS, GC/GC-MS, FTIR, etc.Responsibilities: Works under the general supervision of the R&D manager or senior scientists to prepare samples for trace element analysis by single cell ICP-MS. Participate in the single cell ICP-MS experiment and perform sample acquisition, data analysis, and results export as needed. Communicates with other R&D scientists on the sample preparation and data analysis. Complies with all company safety, training, and quality regulations and procedures. Maintains accurate lab notebooks and complies with Good Laboratory Practices. May be required to perform other analytical assays or help other scientists in their method development. May be required to perform other general lab duties, such as sample shipping and receiving, etc. as required and/or assigned.Education (Minimum Qualifications, must have): Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Bioengineering, Biochemistry or other related discipline. Familiar with analytical sample preparation, methods and techniques. Demonstrated competence in data analysis.Experience Good experience in sample weighing and sample dissolution into appropriate solvents is required. Previous experience in database management, such as Excel, is required. Good understanding and working knowledge of chemistry principles, such as acid/base chemistry, sample solubility, and precipitation, as it relates to the sample preparation is expected. Knowledge of aqueous chemistry of inorganic and organic compounds used in cell culture media is desired. Previous hands-on experience in using Waters, and Agilent analytical instruments, such as ICP, HPLC, and GC.Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate scientific results in a clear, concise and accurate manner. Excellent computer skills with programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to efficiently evaluate and manage multiple project tasks.
