Summary

This position is located in the Division of Resource Stewardship and Science, at the Museum Resource Center. The incumbent drives and operates machinery; processes and handles museum collections objects such as antique furniture, objects of art, architectural fragments, and archeology artifacts.

  • Assists with all aspects of museum collections material handling in storing and processing museum collections objects such as antique furnishings, objects of art, architectural fragments and archeological artifacts
  • Maintains vehicles and equipment used in a museum collection environment.
  • Experience in the use of power tools and the fabrication of shelving for museum collections storage.
  • Design and build museum collections storage furniture

  • You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
  • If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
  • Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.

    Physical Demands: Incumbent handles objects weighing up to 50 lbs. and occasionally over 70 lbs. while loading or unloading trucks, pallets, or working in the facility. Often the incumbent, along with co-workers, will handle objects weighing from 100 to 150 lbs. The incumbent is required to climb and work from ladders, and from lift mechanisms. Work requires walking. climbing, bending, sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time.

    Working Conditions: The incumbent is required to work indoors and occasionally outside, where he/she could be exposed to bad weather conditions while loading and unloading a truck, vehicle, or receiving a delivery. When required, must be able to drive within the geographic are of the region in one day. Incumbent drives in all types of traffic and weather. The incumbent daily handles objects weighing up to 50 lbs. and occasionally over 75 lbs. while loading or unloading the truck or working in the facility. Often the incumbent, along with co-workers, will handle objects weighing up to 1500 lbs. In addition the incumbent will operate lift mechanisms that have a maximum lifting capacity of 3500 lbs.

    Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee.

    The following documents are required and must be submitted by 11:59 PM (EST) on 11/27/2020.
  • Resume which includes a list of all significant jobs held and duties performed. If military or civilian, please include your rank and/or grade.
  • A complete Occupational Questionnaire
  • Merit Promotion Eligibility Documentation such as:
    • Federal employees must submit a copy of their latest SF-50 "Notification of Personnel Action" that reflects career or career-conditional tenure showing position title, series, grade and tenure (please do not submit an Award SF-50 as it does not provide the needed information) and, if different, an SF-50 showing highest permanent grade ever held or you may not be considered under the merit promotion process.
