Responsibilities

  • Serves as a member of the survey team supporting civil works, interagency, and military projects using knowledge of geodetic, topographic, and bathymetric surveying process and procedures.
  • Operates various types of survey equipment such as sonars, theodolites, total stations, and data collectors and software such as CADD, hydrographic/topographic/geodetic (data collection, editing, analysis), word processing, spreadsheet/ database.
  • Prepares field notes, reference maps, sketches, surveying engineering computations, data processing, coordinates calculations, and geodetic control research for surveying and engineering projects.
  • Integrates, configures, and calibrates surveying engineering systems for hydrographic, topographic, and geodetic surveying.
  • Process, evaluate, and edits field data for use in a CADD and Geospatial Information System for mapping, design, and analysis.

  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License.
  • Incumbent is required obtain and maintain a USACE license for the operation of motorboats less than 26 feet within 6 months of employment.
  • This position requires to boat spaces through hatch within limit of 15 inches within limited space.
  • This position requires applicant to be able to operate a chain saw that weigh 20 lbs.
  • This position requires lifting equipment that weighs up to 50 pounds.
  • This position requires a annual hearing conservation test.
  • This position requires working outside, standing, climbing , and walking through rugged terrain.
  • This position requires business travel up to 75% travel.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment physical.
  • This position requires you to comply with safety regulations, occupational safety and health standards, and other safety directives and orders.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience GS-6: Operates various types of survey equipment to collect data associated with dredging and civil works projects such as automatic and digital levels and electronic positioning systems. Utilizes calculators and computer systems to perform surveying and engineering calculations to determine coordinates, angles, and distances.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-5).

Specialized Experience GS-7: Has knowledge and experience of bathymetric and topographic using survey equipment to collect and process data associated with dredging and civil works projects such as global positioning systems, theodolites, single beam sonars, sound velocity profilers, and multi-beam sonars. Utilizes HYPACK Hydrographic Survey Software Suite for data collection and processing of hydrographic survey data.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-6).

Specialized Experience GS-8: Has an advanced knowledge and experience of surveying such as precise leveling, multi-beam surveying data collection and analysis, side scan sonar survey data collection and interpretation and analysis of data. Calibrates and troubleshoots surveying equipment such as sonar and positioning systems. Operate various typed of survey equipment to collect data associated with dredging and civil works projects such as single beam sonars, sound velocity profilers, multi-beam sonars, and side scan sonars. Utilizes HYPACK Hydrographic Survey Software Suite for data collection and processing of hydrographic survey data.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

  • (3) Increased responsibilities are assigned
