Summary

About the Position: The incumbent serves as the Antibiotic Stewardship Program (ASP) Manager within the Patient Safety Program, and is responsible for supporting Markets and Medical Treatment Facilities with functions related to medical and dental antibiotic stewardship policy implementation, communications, strategic partnerships, education and training, and outcome monitoring and evaluation.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and monitors antibiotic guidelines, clinical pathways, policies, and resistance monitoring criteria.
  • Reviews existing policies, procedures, and education products to identify gaps, outdated information, and areas for improvement.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and serves on committees established to review and approve proposed regulations, guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Works with internal and external stakeholders to accomplish mission objectives in support of antibiotic stewardship and Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) priorities.
  • Collaborates with civilian and federal facilities to provide a coordinated service to detect, prevent, and control infections.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary experts to optimize the effectiveness of evidence?based practices in alignment with national efforts to reduce or prevent multidrug-resistance organisms (MDROs).
  • Tracks and evaluates antibiotic stewardship initiatives to ensure progress and sustain results.
  • Oversees measurement and evaluation of antibiotic stewardship goals and objectives, ensuring a focus on reliability and sustainability.
  • Supports the development of antibiograms to improve antibiotic utilization and selection.

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Education: A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an education program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet the following requirement:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Providing advisory services on antimicrobial stewardship activities to agency stakeholders; Evaluating program initiatives to track progress and sustain results; and Utilizing technology and surveillance materials to analyze data for improvement initiative results. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).

Education

  • Permanent Change of Station (PCS) allowances may be authorized, subject to the provisions of the Joint Travel Regulations and an agency determination that a PCS move is in the Government Interest.
  • Preferred advanced level healthcare degree (eg. Masters, Doctorate) or completion of Certification Program with focus on infection prevention and control/antibiotic stewardship.
  • Certification Board in Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC) Certification and/or Antimicrobial Stewardship Certificate (Society for Infectious Diseases Pharmacists) preferred.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
