Jackson & Campbell, PC, a mid-sized DC law firm with an established reputation as a premier DC, Maryland, Virginia litigation firm, currently has an opening for an experienced full-time litigation paralegal to join our growing Medical Malpractice/Health Law Practice Group. If you have civil litigation experience with medical malpractice defense or personal injury litigation experience, we want to hear from you! COVID-19 Considerations Our firm follows the DC Health Department COVID-19 Guidance and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Guidance for Businesses and Employers. After training and orientation, you will have the option to work remotely most days. Key Responsibilities Assists attorneys in all phases of discovery and motions practice. Maintains large document collections within firm-wide database; performs document reviews and prepares document productions, including Bates numbering. Sets up and organizes documents, pleadings, and medical records received for new cases (electronic and paper copies); reviews and indexes medical records; prepares summaries and chronologies of medical records. Assists attorneys in preparation of depositions; prepares witness files; schedules attorneys, expert witnesses, and interested parties; prepares and serves Notice(s) of Deposition; coordinates schedules with court reporters and videographers. Indexes and summarizes depositions transcripts. Performs research on expert witnesses; utilizes defense database services; maintains expert witness database; receives and responds to requests pertaining to expert witnesses. Researches Registered Agents and prepares and coordinates service of subpoenas. Drafts standard procedural pleadings; maintains correspondence and pleadings files. Performs legal research; compiles, analyzes, and presents findings; obtains information/documents from various courts, government agencies, libraries, and other outside resources. Assists with trial preparation; maintains case calendars, case files, and trial/case notebooks. Qualification and Education Requirements 5+ years current civil litigation experience required with medical malpractice defense and/or personal injury litigation experience preferred A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required Paralegal Certificate strongly preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Strong analytical skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment Ability to prioritize and multi-task a diverse caseload and meet deadlines Self-starter who takes ownership of executing tasks Working knowledge of Westlaw, Pacer and e-filing protocols Additional Information Jackson & Campbell offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), paid vacation and sick leave, and an emphasis on work/life balance.
