Description The UNIX/LINUX Systems Engineer will be responsible for troubleshooting problems, suggest enhancements to improve system performance as well as writing system scripts for daily administration and supporting documentation to automate repeatable tasks. The UNIX/LINUX Systems Engineer will install new software releases, system upgrades, evaluate and install patches and resolve software and hardware related problems. They will also be tasked with performing system backups and recovery as well as maintaining data files and monitors system configuration to ensure data integrity. The UNIX/LINUX Systems Engineer will assist with securing and hardening infrastructure technologies to FDA CFSAN and to create/maintain system procedural and technical documentation. More specifically, the candidate will: Have strong UNIX/LINUX fundamentals along with familiarity of UNIX/LINUX/Windows Command Line Interface (CLI). Demonstrated ability to methodically analyze problems and identify potential solutions. Ability to adequately explain, present, demonstrate [when applicable] and document the operational impact of a particular vulnerability or exploit. Ability to map out a network and identify the location of discovered devices within the network. Ability to methodically analyze problems and identify potential solutions. Qualifications REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: BS in Computer Science/Information Systems or similar and 8+ years of relevant experience. May accept an additional 4 years of experience in lieu of a degree. Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, including administration and management of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 or greater to include installation, configuration, optimization, backup and recovery. Experience may be substituted for a degree with qualified candidates. Linux system administration, security patching, OS upgrades, troubleshooting problems, and ensuring maximum availability Configuring RHEL operating system, user accounts, file permissions, security certificates, mount disks Virtual machine creation and maintenance using VMWare ESX and Virtual Center Ability to work independently, as well as, collaborate effectively in a team oriented environment.
