KBC Careers The Sales Manager for Knorr Brake Company is responsible for the market development and commercial and technical proposal development of Knorr Brake Company's systems for passenger rail vehicles for the North American market in their region. Responsibilities of the Sales Manager include: Developing the OE and RS Market; Preparation of technical and commercial tenders and tender documents; Negotiation of contracts with carbuilders/propulsion suppliers; Providing guidance to global systems engineering and project management resources as it relates to sales opportunities; Monitoring the sales performance of the Business Unit (BU) with Key Performance indicators (KPI s); Managing the BU budget related executing commercial and technical tenders; Providing budget estimates and schedules in support of proposals and existing work; The Sales Manager has overall responsibility for assuring that Knorr Brake Company's systems meet customer design and performance requirements and internal financial targets and KPI s. Duties Formulate product/system market development strategy. Develop and implement marketing plans to secure new business/contracts for the OEM/RS. Establish new and maintain current customer relations with propulsion suppliers, carbuilders, transit authorities and consultants by developing a personal rapport by one-on-one contact via customer visits. Plan, direct and provide leadership for all marketing and sales activities. Support the transition of awarded projects to Project Management to ensure a smooth transition and to allow for the completion of projects in accordance to schedule and cost targets. Support the execution of global system engineering activities during tenders to ensure that the systems generated by Knorr Brake Company are in accordance with customer requirements and processes harmonized with Knorr Bremse. Develop and manage annual Department Sales budget. Job Requirements: Required Skills Requirement Minimum Desired Some High School (years) High School Diploma College Degree BS ME or EE Advanced Degree MS or MBA Required Experience An understanding and knowledge of the passenger/transit rail industry specification/procurement requirements are essential to effectively perform the responsibilities of this position. Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Excellent human relations/interpersonal skills are required to influence behavior at all levels in the corporation and provide peer/employee facilitation. The Sales Manager must be able to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment. Technical Experience Broad experience and understanding of engineering principles: Ability to understand and provide guidance for the resolution of technical issues as they relate to the execution of OE systems. Project management/Business Experience: Understanding of CPM project schedules Understanding of resource planning and management Must have good business sense. Cost Estimation Ability to make good business decisions Generation of risk assessments Strong sense of commercial awareness Industry Experience: Knowledge and practical understanding of KB equipment or similar equipment and principles Experience with integrated electro-mechanical systems preferred Demonstrated leadership in project environment Process Orientation: Must understand and practice good organization and configuration management skills Generation, documentation, and monitoring of department processes Computer Literacy; Proficient with MS Office applications Proficient with Adobe Acrobat and MS Outlook MS Project SAP Leadership and Teamwork: Must be able to define clearly requirements and expectations to others (Project Manager, Customer, Engineers, Purchasing, etc.) Must exercise independent judgment and be prepared to quickly alter/impact the course of events. Must be able to work well in a team environment both within Knorr and with customers and end users. Must be an effective negotiator (Internal departments, European partners Customers, End Users) Strong problem solving abilities Must have a strong desire to succeed with high expectations, both of themselves and others Time Management: Must be able to read a large volume of material (usually customer specifications, contracts) and ascertain the salient points, assess risks, and resolve compliance and/or contractual issues. Manage multiple and conflicting priorities. Communication Skills: Must have effective communications and presentations skills "Sell themselves and the company" Technical Presentations Motivation: Must be energetic, hard working and willing to put in an extra effort when required. Flexibility: Must be able to travel on short notice and sometimes for several weeks at a time (normally travel should average 30-40% or less), but there will be erratic periods of unscheduled travel, such as 1-7 days/week for 1-3 week periods. International travel is required.
