Responsibilities

As a Staff Assistant, you may:
  • Serve as an office manager to the Assistant Director for the Directorate of Program Support by devising and installing office procedures and practices to be used in the Assistant Director's office and by staff in other Divisions within the Directorate of Program Support.
  • Courteously and professionally receive and respond to telephone calls and written inquiries from the general public and other Federal agencies requesting general information concerning Directorate environmental programs.
  • Prepare memoranda, documents, or correspondence in accordance to the Department/OSMRE manuals and/or handbooks governing correspondence; review and recommend improvements to Directorate clerical processes such as manuals and automated files, typing, and tracking systems.
  • Assist the Assistant Director in communicating issues, management actions and information to Directorate staff and external groups.
  • Prepare financial reports, track and record monthly expenditures for local procurement, travel, contracts and supplies to ensure all discrepancies/differences are resolved as well as request additional program information.
  • Prepares travel arrangements and review travel vouchers for compliance with the Federal, OSMRE and Departmental Travel guidelines and regulations; maintain the Assistant Directors electronic calendar, schedule appointments, conference rooms and collect and input time and attendance for Directorate staff.
  • Plans and organize support services for the office such as mail, supplies, communications, property, vehicles, records management and reproduction services in order to interpret policy for management and staff to resolve internal and/or external issues that may arise along with ensuring compliance with mandatory regulations issued by the General Services Administration and General Accounting Office, the Solicitor's Office and the Department of the Interior.

Qualifications

You may qualify for the GS-09 level, if you fulfill one of the following qualification requirements:
A. Possess one full year of specialized experience specialized experience with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position that are typically in or directly related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to the least the next lower grade level grade level in the Federal service, or comparable pay band system. Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Specialized Experience is defined as: Provide clerical and program/administrative support; maintain electronic calendar and schedule meetings, conference rooms, collect and input time and attendance; receive incoming telephone calls, greet visitors, and refer to the appropriate staff member; prepare financial reports and track/record monthly expenditures for travel, training and equipment programs.

B.
A master's or equivalent graduate degree in an accredited or pre-accredited college or university; or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or possession of a LL.B. or J.D degree, if related. Graduate level education must demonstrate the competencies necessary to do the work of the position;

A combination of education and experience as listed above.
