Responsibilities

This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, Office of the Chief Security Officer, Headquarters Support, Visitor Management and Access Control,Washington, District of Columbia.

Duties performed:
  • Provide guidance and advice for the development and implementation of policies, processes and procedures related to the functional areas in security administration, personnel security, physical security, cyber security, information security, and industrial security programs
  • Advises managers on new developments and advances in security processes, methods, techniques, systems and devices
  • Performs vulnerability identification, risk analysis, assessment of evolving threats, information security, physical security, and information technology security
  • Develops and coordinates vulnerability reduction measures; performs protective action planning and implementation
  • Participates in the development and management of training programs designed to develop government expertise in the protection and response activities related to security administration
  • Interprets new policies, procedures, standards, training and methods to ensure compliance relating to preventing, identifying and protecting information, personnel, property, facilities,operations, or material from unauthorized disclosure, misuse, theft, sabotage, or loss
  • Provides advice and guidance to higher-level officials, other security specialists, subject matter specialists throughout the Directorate, staff of Federal, State and local public safety and law enforcement agencies, representatives of private sector organizations and contractors on policy interpretation and application Prepares reports, communications and other documentation required to support the Directorate's position related to office projects and programs
  • Collaborates and coordinates with Federal, State, local and private sector stakeholders to develop security enhancement, safeguard strategies, share information, and provide subject matter expertise to develop programs and special projects

Qualifications

GS-13

Must have at least one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the next lower level (equivalent to the GS-12) in the Federal service, serving as a security specialist or in a closely related occupation performing the following types of duties:
  • Providing policy advice and technical expertise to enable industry compliance with security standards and regulations;
  • Monitoring new developments and advancements in security and advising senior management and decision makers on modifying or updating security processes, methods, techniques, systems and devices;
  • Developing and recommending responses to unique security problems;
  • Analyzing existing information security, personnel security, physical security, cyber security, and/or industrial security programs in order to anticipate potential issues or possible attacks;
  • Working with program managers, security specialists within and outside the organizations, and Federal, State and local safety and law enforcement agencies on security matters; and
  • Implementing security programs.

    Background Investigation: To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) requires each and every employee to be reliable and trustworthy.
