Summary

This position is located in the Division of Depositor and Consumer Protection, Deposit Insurance Section at the Headquarters of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and provides support in the areas of development, implementation, coordination and monitoring of the Corporation's deposit insurance education and outreach program.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to deposit insurance questions received from the public and the banking industry through the FDIC Call Center, the Internet, and regular mail and codes data into the Division's Tracking system.
  • Serves as a primary point of contact for the Section with the FDIC Call Center (located in the Division of Administration), which is responsible for answering routine deposit insurance inquiries received from bankers and consumers.
  • Researches information in response to various deposit insurance coverage issues. Interprets and applies various consumer protection laws and deposit insurance coverage for the most common ownership account categories, including single, self-directed retirement, joint revocable and straight forward trust accounts.
  • Assists in the development and dissemination of educational tools designed to inform the public about the deposit insurance coverage rules and regulations through a variety of media (e.g., Internet, publications, on-site presentations, videos).
  • Responds to written and telephone inquiries from bankers, consumers and others concerning aspects of the FDIC's rules and regulations for deposit insurance coverage. The incumbent uses the rules of deposit insurance coverage to advise bankers and consumers about FDIC insurance coverage.

Qualifications

Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious/spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. CG-09:

EXPERIENCE: To qualify based on experience; applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the CG-07 level in the federal service. Specialized experience is experience assisting in responding to inquiries and researching information on deposit insurance.

OR

EDUCATION: To qualify based on education; applicants must possess a Master's or equivalent graduate degree, or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, or an LL.B. or J.D., if related.

OR

COMBINING EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Combinations of successfully completed education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements for the CG-09 level.

CG-11:

EXPERIENCE: To qualify based on experience; applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the CG-09 level in the federal service. Specialized experience is experience assisting in responding to inquiries, researching and interpreting information on deposit insurance.

OR

EDUCATION: To qualify based on education; applicants must possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, or an LL.M., if related.

OR

COMBINING EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Combinations of successfully completed education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements for the CG-11 level.

CG-12:

EXPERIENCE: To qualify based on experience; applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the CG-11 level in the federal service. Specialized experience is experience assisting in responding to inquiries, researching and interpreting information on deposit insurance, preparing reports and materials and assisting in the development and dissemination of informational tools.

There is no substitution of education at the CG-12 level.

Applicants must have met the qualification requirements (including selective placement factors - if any) for this position within 30 calendar days of the closing date of this announcement.

5. Ability to plan and implement seminars and outreach events for financial institution regarding deposit insurance coverage.

6. Knowledge of the laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures related to deposit insurance coverage and the application of these rules and guidelines to determine insurance coverage for specific deposit accounts.
