This is for the position of Electrical Engineer with the Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority. The ideal candidate will be expected to possess a minimum of 5 years' experience in electrical engineering performing designs using AUTOCAD. Candidate should be familiar with electrical equipment, such as, medium and low voltage switchgears / switchboards, MCCs and starters, microprocessor, electro-mechanical relays, Transformers (dry & oil), UPS, Batteries, ATS, Generators, lighting and lighting control systems, voltage regulators, cables, and others. The candidate should have knowledge of NFPA 70.

The role will also require field work throughout various locations in the DC, MD and VA area to WMATA's facilities to witness testing of electrical equipment. The position will require traveling to manufacturer's facilities throughout the US. This position will require evening and night work with little to no notice. Among other tasks, the candidate will be responsible for the review of WMATA design criteria, directive and standard drawings, consultant's/contractor's electrical designs and installation.

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. A minimum of five (5) years of extensive, progressively responsible experience in the electrical engineering field to include high and low voltage switchgears, DC switchgears, power control components, electrical lighting systems and heating devices. Thoroughly familiar with applying the National Electrical Code in design and using the AutoCAD to prepare contract drawings is required.

Or an equivalent combination of post-high school education and a minimum of seven (7) years of extensive, progressively responsible experience in the electrical engineering field to include high and low voltage switchgears , DC switchgears, power control components, electrical lighting systems and heating devices. Thoroughly familiar with applying the National Electrical Code in design and using the AutoCAD to prepare contract drawings is required.

Job Summary/Duties:

This is a professional Computer-Aided Design (CAD) capable electrical engineering position involving electrical engineering design and production, review and evaluation of electrical designs (calculations, drawings and specifications) with hands on use and application of state-of-the-art CAD software and basic electrical engineering computer programs. The employee in this position performs preliminary design analyses, formats drawings to comply with CAD standards, translates manually-drawn documents to CAD drawings, and assists higher-level personnel in carrying out complex design assignments.

Prepares, using AutoCAD and electrical engineering computer programs, designs and

drawings for assigned projects. Ensures adequacy and adherence to electrical engineering practices and principles for new facilities and compatibility with existing

facilities.

Coordinates with other disciplines and offices of the Authority to ensure the electrical

design meets the overall requirements of the project.

Reviews final design plans and specifications for electrical engineering concepts with emphasis on constructability, state-of-the-art, and safety for the transit system, including service shops, storage yards, bus maintenance and storage garages, parking lots and terminals.

Coordinates and reviews contractor submitted shop drawings, catalog cuts, samples,

and specifications of electrical systems to include switchgears, switchboards,

electrical panels, power control components, transformers, motors, fans, escalators, elevators, electric cables, conduits/fittings, boxes, electric heating devices, UPS systems, illumination systems and other related equipment.

Provides technical direction to Resident Engineer and Construction field personnel when problems arise requiring deviations from contract drawings, specifications or standard practices.

Maintains continuous overview of the electrical systems installed by contractors to

ensure safety and maintainability of equipment and to minimize differences in operations and maintenance procedures.

Attempts to resolve actual and potential problems that develop.

Prepares or reviews feasibility studies, special reports, and investigations on problems that have to do with electrical systems and subsystems, their related user needs and requirements.

Prepares documentation and designs to support any field problems because of change

in site condition.

Participates, as required, in Substantial Completion Inspections and other field site

inspections or investigations relative to electrical systems.

Reviews and updates the Authority's Electrical Standard and Directive Drawings as required to meet current needs and/or prevailing electrical standards.

Performs other electrical engineering related tasks as assigned.
