Adventist HealthCare seeks to hire an experienced Language Access Medical Interpreter who will embrace our mission to extend God's care through the ministry of physical, mental and spiritual healing.

As a Language Access Medical Interpreter, you will:
• Serve as interpreter for patients and caregivers
• Interact with patients, families and staff daily to identify patients' language needs regarding care issues
• Coordinate interpreter scheduling for patients in collaboration with other disciplines/departments
• Assist patients with cultural/language needs with compassion and respect
• Schedule requests for Qualified Bilingual Staff testing
• Educate staff on the use of interpreting services and equipment

Qualifications include:
• At least one year of interpreter experience, preferably in healthcare, required
• An Associate degree or equivalent preferred
• Trained and tested healthcare interpreter with at least one year of experience
• Completion in an interpreter training program of at least 40 hours
• Professional interpreting certification, such as Certified Medical Interpreter from a reputed organization
• Strong linguistic skills - Full professional proficiency in English and Spanish
• Understands a variety of regional accents, linguistic styles and registers
• Selects appropriate mode of interpretation for each situation
• Must pass the language proficiency assessment as Level 2
• Understands and adopts the different roles of interpreters (conduit, clarifier, cultural broker, advocate) as appropriate
• Uses discretion when discussing confidential issues
• Demonstrates cultural competence and customer service skills (interpersonal skills)

Work Schedule:

Part-time days; 20 hours per week. This position will support Rockville, Gaithersburg, Silver Spring and Takoma Park locations.
