Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities for this position include, but not limited to the following:
  • Completion of psychiatric and physical diagnostic questionnaires.
  • Maintaining clinical records and documentation.
  • Ensuring regulatory compliance and compliance with Good Clinical Practices, and patient recruitment and retention.
  • Organize and assist in the scheduling of patient appointments, make data base corrections, and work with the clinical staff associated with the BHL.
  • Complete structured diagnostic and clinical assessments for participants.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, diagnostic categories, and chart review.
  • Reviews assessments completed by others and obtains missing information from providers, patients, and medical records.
  • Contacts patients through written correspondence and telephone calls, and conducts follow up interviews.
  • Assists the Behavioral Health Laboratory Coordinator/Supervisory Program Support Assistant in the training of new staff.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/03/2020.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
GS-06 Experience:
  • Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Experience that involved the observation of and assistance in the application of techniques relating to behavior, capacities, traits, interests, and activities of either humans or, under laboratory conditions, animals. Experience may have been gained in connection with a program of research or direct services in psychology that gave a practical understanding of some of the principles, methods, and techniques of psychology needed to assist professional psychologists. OR
  • Education: Successful completion of one half year (9 semester hours above a bachelor's degree) of graduate study in Psychology at an accredited college or university which may be substituted for experience at the GS-6 level. OR
  • Combination of Education and Specialized Experience: Have an equivalent combination of related graduate level education and specialized experience, as described above. This education and experience must have provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities to do the work of a Psychology Technician.
GS-07 Experience:
  • Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Experience that involved the observation of and assistance in the application of techniques relating to behavior, capacities, traits, interests, and activities of either humans or, under laboratory conditions, animals. Experience may have been gained in connection with a program of research or direct services in psychology that gave a practical understanding of some of the principles, methods, and techniques of psychology needed to assist professional psychologists; requires extensive experience with data collection and presentation; familiarity with clinical settings; skill with computers and database creation and management; organizational skills necessary for successful coordination of personnel in clinical and non-clinical hospital services; skill in organizing and maintaining records and record summaries; and excellent communication skills OR,
  • Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have completed one full year of graduate education in Psychology. OR
  • Combination of Education and Specialized Experience: Have an equivalent combination of related graduate level education and specialized experience, as described above.
GS-08 Experience:
  • Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-07 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Experience that involved the observation of and assistance in the application of techniques relating to behavior, capacities, traits, interests, and activities of either humans or, under laboratory conditions, animals. Experience may have been gained in connection with a program of research or direct services in psychology that gave a practical understanding of some of the principles, methods, and techniques of psychology needed to assist professional psychologists. Knowledge of and experience working in a research and/or clinical environment and health care field, including knowledge of unique requirements of clinical activities, and policy, regulations, and practices used to administer research and clinical programs and projects; Knowledge of and experience in developing and/or administering surveys. OR
  • Education: Have successfully completed (27 semester hours above a bachelor's degree) of graduate study in Psychology at an accredited college or university which may be substituted for experience at the GS-8 level. OR
  • Combination of Education and Specialized Experience: Have an equivalent combination of related graduate level education and specialized experience, as described above.
GS-09 Experience:
  • Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-08 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Experience that involved the observation of and assistance in the application of techniques relating to behavior, capacities, traits, interests, and activities of either humans or, under laboratory conditions, animals. Experience may have been gained in connection with a program of research or direct services in psychology that gave a practical understanding of some of the principles, methods, and techniques of psychology needed to assist professional psychologists; Ability to manage multiple, concurrent projects and work under limited supervision; Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to the emotions of others, with the necessary tact and skills to deal with a wide variety of psychologically disturbed and multi-physically disabled patients who possess multiple problems in psychological adjustment and complexity in rehabilitation; Ability to observe human behavior and accurately record observations of behavior test responses, in order to arrive at an accurate interpretation of the data; Knowledge of various treatment and rehabilitation programs involving a complexity of psychological and physical handicaps; and ability to work independently in interviewing, testing, and performing psychotherapy and counseling with difficult patients. OR,
  • Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have completed two full years of graduate education or a master's degree in Psychology. OR
  • Combination of Education and Specialized Experience: Have an equivalent combination of related graduate level education and specialized experience, as described above.

Education

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. For a GS-08 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07. For a GS-09 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-08.The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Physical Requirements: Work is mostly sedentary and may frequently involve numerous hours working at computer stations.
