Summary

This position serves as a Program Specialist located in EDSITEment, which is a part of the Division of Education Programs, National Endowment for the Humanities. EDSITEment was established in 1997 to enhance, augment, and advance the teaching and learning of the humanities.

Responsibilities

  • The Program Specialist works with Division of Education Program staff to develop the EDSITEment project and increase its impact both within and outside of the agency and performs the following:
  • Develops, evaluates, approves, and promotes educational content in EDSITEment's primary subject areas of history and social studies; assumes increased responsibilities for the project's secondary subject area, English language arts; and oversees the topical areas of art and culture, as needed.
  • Establishes and maintains a network of K-12 master teachers, educators, and curriculum developers; advises vendors and curriculum writers, as well as teacher and scholar reviewers, on the agency's mission and the criteria for developing educational content.
  • Establishes and maintains partnerships with cultural, educational, and other institutions and organizations that support humanities programs.
  • Invites and enhances collaborative opportunities for EDSITEment within the division, and works with supervisory and program staff to achieve the successful integration of project goals into the work of the division.
  • Coordinates with other NEH divisions and offices in order to collect, develop, and promote relevant agency-funded projects on the EDSITEment website.
  • Identifies new users for the EDSITEment website, and assists in identifying new sources of content for the site.
  • Creates strategies for effective project promotion; writes regular promotional pieces for the EDSITEment website, and social media platforms, highlighting EDSITEment and agency initiatives.
  • Performs ongoing evaluation and assessment of all educational resources for the EDSITEment project.
  • Monitors the general health of the website, providing for appropriate oversight over all back end content upload, from final editing to tagging and 508 Compliance.
  • Uses expertise in K-12 classroom and digital education to assess the feasibility of new Internet-based tools for students and provides extensive feedback in the review and testing phase of new tools and elements proposed for the EDSITEment website.
  • Coordinates project website duties among content providers and reviewers, consulting with relevant NEH staff, as needed.
  • Contributes to the development of guidelines for the EDSITEment project, and cooperates in developing long-range planning and policy development and more effective administrative procedures for the project.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

At the GS-11 level Qualified candidates must possess:
One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level or equivalent experience.

Specialized experience is experience that is directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. For example, experience teaching in the humanities at the pre-collegiate level; evaluating humanities curriculum, working with K-12 humanities teachers and/or administrators; and proofreading and editing web-based educational content.

At the GS-12 level Qualified candidates must possess:
One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level or equivalent experience.

Specialized experience is experience that is directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. For example, experience teaching in the humanities at the pre-collegiate level; developing and/or evaluating humanities curriculum, working with K-12 humanities teachers and/or administrators; and developing, proofreading and editing web-based educational content.

Education

Possess an advanced degree (masters or beyond) in a discipline of the humanities. For example, a masters or beyond in history, government/political science, or an interdisciplinary humanities field in which history plays a major part.
