Summary

The Engineering & Technology Directorate, Software Engineering Division, Flight Software Systems Branch (Code 582) and Science Data Processing Branch (Code 587), is seeking a highly experienced individual to serve as an Associate Branch Head. The Flight Software Systems Branch performs requirements analysis, design, development, verification, validation and sustaining engineering of flight software (FSW) for spacecraft, science instruments, and flight hardware components.

  • Assist in maintaining technical and administrative oversight of the Branch and conducts periodic reviews of the core capability of the organization.
  • Make recommendations and provide advice and information to the Branch Head concerning programs, operations, problem areas, and capabilities.
  • Formulate and develop funding and manpower budgets in support of Branch program needs and justifies those requirements in presentations to the Branch Head and Division Chief.
  • Find and implement the elimination or reduction of barriers to production, promote team building, and improve operating procedures within the Branch, Divisions within ETD, and customer organizations.
  • Maintain the availability of the appropriate contracts to support the missions of the Branch.
  • Assist the Branch Head in the planning and direction of the Branch's funding, manpower, and organizational structure.
  • Assist the Branch Head in managing the Branch's internal functions, conducting detailed program planning, and supervising team leaders and other personnel.
  • Establish priorities and program assignments, prioritizes tasks, and periodically reviews progress of organizational elements.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Education Requirement, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-13), which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.

Specialized experience includes providing technical leadership in the performance of requirements analysis,
design, development, verification, validation and/or sustaining engineering of flight software (FSW) for
spacecraft, science instruments, and/or flight hardware components.

Education

Basic Education Requirement: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major study in engineering, physical science, mathematics, life sciences, computer science, or other field of science.
Degrees in engineering technology are not considered to be qualifying for this position.

U.S. Engineering degrees must have been awarded from a college or university school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Foreign Engineering degrees must be recognized by a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA), often known as accords. These are non-governmental agreements among organizations that accredit academic degree programs.
