Responsibilities

As a INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST (INFOSEC) you will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Serve as an Information Systems Security Professional (ISSP) within the Capital Region.
  • Perform Cybersecurity activities including security control assessments in support of Information Technology (IT) system assess and authorize activity utilizing the Risk Management Framework (RMF).
  • Exercise security oversight of cleared contractor information systems within the National Industrial Security Program (NISP).
  • Analyze, assess, evaluate, verify and validate cleared contractor information system security plans and controls, and deliver system authorization risk recommendations to the Authorizing Official.
  • Develop and maintain security documentation and artifacts for Information Systems assigned
  • Engage and interface with industry security professionals to assess implemented security controls.
  • Enforce IT security control requirements, recommend configurations for information systems and networks and identify strategies to manage risk through mitigation of IT vulnerabilities, considering the rapidly evolving Cybersecurity threat to IT systems.
  • Serve as spokesperson at conferences and training meetings to convey NISP and RMF implementation guidance and Cybersecurity information relating to industrial security.

  • It is a requirement to be certified within six months of the appointment date (if not already certified) in accordance with DoD 8570.01-M for Information Assurance Management (IAM) Level III and Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level II.

Qualifying experience may have been acquired in any public or private sector job, but will clearly demonstrate past experience in the application of the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position.

    Specialized experience required for this position is: Preventing, assessing, and/or mitigating threats to information systems and infrastructures and the information contained in or transmitted by these systems; Detailed knowledge of risk management principles and framework; Analyzing contractor security plans and documenting security plan errors and/or omissions and communicating errors and/or omissions to contractors; Extensive knowledge of common computer operating systems, networking fundamentals and architecture, and network security devices

    Specifically you will be evaluated on the following competencies:

    1. Information Systems Security Certification:
    Knowledge of the principles, methods, and tools for evaluating information systems security features against a set of specified security requirements. Includes developing security certification and accreditation plans and procedures, documenting deficiencies, reporting corrective actions, and recommending changes to improve the security of information systems.

    2. Information Systems/Network Security:
    Knowledge of methods, tools, and procedures, including development of information security plans, to prevent information systems vulnerabilities, and provide or restore security of information systems and network services.

    3. Information Technology Customer Support:
    Provide functional and/or technical support to customers to ensure validation of requirements and delivery of Information Technology capabilities.

    4. Oral Communication:
    Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

    5. Technology Application:
    Uses machines, tools, or equipment effectively; uses computers and computer applications to analyze and communicate information in the appropriate format.

    6. Writing:
    Recognizes or uses correct English grammar, punctuation, and spelling; communicates information (for example, facts, ideas, or messages) in a succinct and organized manner; produces written information, which may include technical material, that is appropriate for the intended audience.

    Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.

    DCSA, as a newly designated Defense Agency is undergoing a multi-year transformation that includes a significant expansion of predecessor agencies' authorities and responsibilities. Mission accretion and associated growth in personnel and resources requires deliberate coordination and planning across operations and support activities to achieve effective outcomes while simultaneously establishing and integrating new activities, initiatives and projects. The new organization will be comprised of nearly 13,000 government and contractor personnel operation throughout the United States and overseas supporting stakeholders across the federal government.
