Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited college or University with a Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Business Administration, Transportation or a related field. A minimum of four (4) years of technical and administrative support and public contact experience. At least two years of experience in a public transit environment demonstrating some knowledge of station management procedures is preferred.

Or, an equivalent combination of post high school education and a minimum of nine (9) years of technical and administrative support and public contact experience, including at least two (2) years of experience in a public transit environment demonstrating some knowledge of station management procedures.

Mission Essential Designation

In accordance with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority's Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) this job has been identified as critical to mission essential functions. Incumbents in this role may be required to report to or continue to work in the event of authorized office closings or service suspensions due to severe weather, natural disaster, fire, operational emergencies or related events.

Job Summary/Duties:

Receives, processes, and coordinates Metrorail service-related information between the Rail Operations Control Center (ROCC) and multiple operating units, officials, etc. Monitors various systems in the Control Center for conditions which could affect Metrorail service and makes recommendations on and coordinates resources to implement effective response plans. Monitors AIMS, Internet, Intranet, MAXIMO and other tools to quickly identify Metrorail service disruptions. Documents all unusual occurrences that occur within the Metrorail system and ensures prompt and accurate information regarding Metrorail service is delivered to internal and external persons. During emergency situations, responsible for performing notifications to various departments-both internal and external to include local jurisdiction emergency responders. Responsible for the timely opening and closing of all Metrorail stations and mezzanines in accordance to published times. Provides leadership and guidance to station managers in accordance to established standard operating procedures.

Advises personnel of escalator/elevator outages, abnormal operating conditions, special events, service changes, and alternative operating strategies in a timely manner. Works with other key personnel to ensure passenger safety and minimize inconvenience during abnormal and emergency conditions. Coordinates alternative service arrangements and advises Bus Operations Control Center (BOCC), Customer Service (CSVC) and Metro Transit Police Department (MTPD) of rail delays.

Provides Metrorail service disruption information through station announcements, Public Information Display System messages and the Metrorail Service Disruption Hotline.

Writes summaries of incidents and their impact on Metrorail service for posting on the Authority's website.

Performs regular Metrorail station field visits and attend station manager refresher courses to stay abreast of station operation procedures.

Reviews reports from Station Managers and field personnel on unusual occurrences such as fire or smoke in stations, sick customers, unauthorized persons on right-of-way, lost persons, intoxicated/disorderly customers, assaults, etc.

Initiates necessary actions on the part of the Rail Operations Control Center, such as making notifications and dispatching Metro Transit Police, local fire and police departments and other supporting services to incident locations. Monitors emergency telephone console and implements Emergency Call sheet for internal notifications during major service disruptions.

Monitors and directs the activities of the station's supervisors and station managers as needed. Makes notification to various internal/external customers and WMATA stakeholders to ensure adequate and quality information is communicated.

Maintains up-to-date files of various operating records and completes required daily reports. Ensures consistency in monitoring and providing support as needed for preparation and presentation of documentation for all electronic messages.

Works with other offices to ensure all work related activities are executed on time. Maintains proficiency on all communication devices and equipment configurations.
