You will serve as an UTILITY SYSTEMS REPAIRER OPERATOR of NAVAL FAC ENGINEERING CMD WASH.

Responsibilities

  • You will repair high pressure boiler, cooling, and dehumidifying equipment systems to maintain operational efficiency.
  • You will measure pipe, joint, and valve sizes for piping and boiler systems.
  • You will interpret drawings and work instructions to determine the parts and equipment needed to repair boiler plant and air conditioning systems.

  • Incumbent is required to posses or obtain within one year, a valid Maryland Third Class Stationary Engineer license, National Institute for the Uniform Licensing of Power Engineers Third Class Power Engineers license.
  • Incumbent may be required to obtain and maintain certification as a Maryland Visible Emissions Evaluator if testing is provided.
  • Incumbent may be required to attend NOx/Combustion Optimization training if provided.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • This incumbent may be required to work shift work. Scheduled hours are subject to change with short notice.
  • Call back and emergency overtime are regular requirements for position.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: THE ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF AN UTILITY SYSTEMS REPAIRER OPERATOR WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION INCLUDING: 1) Maintaining various operational repairs on single or multiple fuel power boilers, and associated auxiliary equipment; 2) Maintaining efficient combustion levels; 3) Adjusting fuel feed controls, changing from gas to oil; and 4) Performing preventive maintenance on boiler plant and electrical generating equipment and their associated auxiliaries.

After normal working hours, on weekends and holidays the incumbent will operate the Emergency Service Desk. The incumbent will answer all trouble calls and take appropriate actions.

A 40 hour work week is typical of this position.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Employee will be exposed to extreme temperatures, smoke, dirt, noise, unpleasant odors, toxic fumes, soot, toxic dust, water, fuel oil, chemicals and all types of weather conditions. Work may result in bruises, burns from steam, heat, chemicals or machinery.

Physical Demands:
Light to medium physical effort is required to observe and adjust equipment. Work requires frequent standing, stooping, walking and climbing. Frequently works in awkward or cramped positions when performing maintenance work. Frequently lifts and carries tools, equipment and supplies weighing up to 80 pounds.
