MAJOR DUTIES:

IT Specialists (INFOSEC) - Systems Security Engineers are a mission critical occupation for HRSA. These positions are responsible for maintaining critical infrastructure as well as deployment of new systems and technologies while maintaining operational security for the agency's Information Technology Systems. As an Information Technology Specialist, you will serve as a Systems Security Engineer in the Division of Infrastructure Services.

Your major duties and responsibilities will include:
  • Providing proactive support, engineering and architecture design services for HRSA's enterprise public and private cloud as well as the on premise computing environment.
  • Configuring, automating, maintaining, and troubleshooting hosting systems including storage infrastructure, computing hardware, networking devices, automation tools, backups, communications systems and application software in support of demand driven 24 x 7 work environment.
  • Transforming manual methods, and procedures into computer driven automated workflows.
  • Troubleshooting complex issues, implements complex technologies, performs upgrades to systems, develops and deploys automates tools and processes as well as deploy new systems.
  • Enforcing technical security controls and safeguards on all Systems at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:

To qualify for this position you must possess IT related experience and/or training that demonstrates that you possess each of the following four competencies: Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. AND

In addition to meeting the four IT related competencies listed above, in order to qualify for this IT Specialist position at the GS-13 level, your resume must clearly demonstrate that you have one full year of specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to at least the GS-12 level in the federal service.

Examples of qualifying experience include the following types of tasks performed on a regular and recurring basis: Deploying, configuring and administering server virtualization and storage systems to support a server environment; hardening Operating Systems to meet industry standards for enterprise storage system security requirements; and identifying, patching and mitigating system vulnerabilities to safeguard systems.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; community; student; social). If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited.
