Job Announcement

Provides leadership and is responsible for the overall management, development, and mentoring of staff assigned to a space planning team. Manages space planning tasks/projects from conception through occupancy. Responsible for the complete development of documents associated with full performance space planning designs and tasks. Prepares space project designs, plans, specifications and estimates for various end users for a portfolio of over 240 structures. With minimal supervision manages tasks from conception through installation completion. Coordinates with other trades including HVAC, structural, electrical, and architectural disciplines. Uses advanced planning concepts and objectives to resolve complex issues and provide expertise and assistance to Space Planner I's. Provides analyses related to proposed space moves/renovations to ensure overall county objectives are met. Develops space programs, feasibility programs, concept layouts and other planning materials. May supervise employees. Works under the guidance and general direction of an Architect/Engineer IV or Project Manager II.

Note: This position is considered essential personnel, on-call or alternate shifts may be necessary to complete work assignments.

Employment Standards

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in, architecture, interior design or a related field of study; plus four years of experience in architecture, space planning and/or facilities planning and management, interior design, or a related field.
A master’s degree in interior design, architecture or a related filed may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

A valid driver's license.

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, and a driving records check to the satisfaction of the employer.

  • Five or more years' demonstrated history directly responsible and accountable for management and supervision of full performance space planning design and construction projects in occupied buildings greater than 100,000 gross sq ft., per building to include low rise and high rise (5 stories or more) buildings with individual project budgets over $100,000 involving multiple trades.
  • Five or more years' demonstrated history in interpreting and applying building codes and regulations.
  • Proficient in reading building architectural and engineering plans.
  • Five or more years demonstrated history in the full performance responsibility for a portfolio of complex commercial building space planning projects in occupied commercial facilities including but not limited to: development of contracts, authoring scope of work, financial oversight, design development, submittal approval, RFI responses, construction quality, safety performance, oversight of quality metrics and quality performance, firm/contractor selection and oversight, oversight of project documentation and project schedule, and risk mitigation.
  • American Institute of Certified Planners certification.
Mobility is needed to meet position requirements. Good eye sight a must for review and preparation of Space Drawings as well as good dexterity. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
