Position Summary

The Senior Specialist, Instructional Systems Designer (ISD) is responsible for the design, development, and support of high-quality learning activities and events in a variety of training modalities. This position requires a responsive, committed individual who recognizes the impact of the work on the organization as a whole.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborative design and development of training materials (learning activities, presentations, quick reference tools, instructor and participant guides, etc.) on a variety of topics
  • Development of web-based training in recognized eLearning authoring tool (e.g.: Captivate, Storyline, Lectora)
  • Content review and editing of materials for TWD and APHL training projects
  • Prepare, execute and monitor project timelines
  • Allocate and monitor resources
  • Create, maintain, and update project reports for both internal and external stakeholders
  • Apply ADDIE model to design and develop effective training programs.
  • Conduct needs assessments
  • Develop training plans to include learning objectives, target audience, course outlines, case studies, measurement tools, and sample training materials
  • Develop various learning resources and materials
  • Collaborate with and develop alliances with subject matter experts to support identified learning objectives
  • Implement training using an content appropriate modality: face-to-face (faculty led, lecture or seminar); web-conferencing; or e-learning
  • Manage and coordinate the review process to ensure content accuracy
  • Review existing materials and determine if they require updates or can be re-purposed into other content
  • Support content conversion and development of support materials 
  • Employment Standards- Education and Experience

    BA/BS required; Master's in instructional systems design or other relevant area preferred. Incumbents generally have three or more years of experience in their discipline. Graduate level degrees may be considered in lieu of experience. Experience working with scientists, public and private agencies strongly preferred; knowledge of public health laboratory systems is desired, but not required. Champion of lifelong learning.

    Knowledge

    Instruction; instructional systems; adult learning concepts. Experience with learning management systems. Strong analytical skills; proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office and PowerPoint programs required. Proficiency with eLearning authoring tools (e.g. Lectora, Captiva and/or Storyline) a plus.

    Skills

    Self-motivated professional with excellent verbal and written communications, advanced writing, editing, highly developed interpersonal skills and diplomatic finesse. Skills in planning, organizing and time management. Experience with learning management systems. Strong analytical skills; proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office and PowerPoint programs required. Proficiency with eLearning authoring tools (e.g. Lectora, Captiva and/or Storyline) a plus.

    Abilities

    Ability to juggle multiple priority projects at varying stages of development concurrently while meeting deadlines and established standards. Ability to learn new subjects quickly. Equally effective working alone and in teams.
