Westat is an employee-owned corporation providing research services to agencies of the U.S. Government, as well as businesses, foundations, and state and local governments. Westat's research, technical, and administrative staff of more than 2,000 is located at our headquarters in Rockville, Maryland, near Washington, DC.

Westat is seeking an experienced senior researcher to lead tasks and projects and prepare proposals in the field of education. In this position, you will contribute to the capabilities of the Education Studies Practice by providing leadership in research, evaluation, policy analysis, and technical assistance and by targeting and developing new business opportunities.

Job Responsibilities: 
• Contributing substantively to multiple research and policy areas, with an emphasis on the both general education and special education at the federal and state levels.
• Organizing and directing teams of individuals focused on research or technical assistance projects. 
• Developing reports, briefs, presentations, and other products that disseminate research and practice findings to a wide range of audiences, including policy makers, researchers, practitioners, and families.
• Identifying, prioritizing, and pursuing business development opportunities.
• Writing proposals.

Basic Qualifications: 
• A Ph.D. in education, public policy, or other relevant social science discipline. 
• 10 or more years' experience with research, evaluation, policy and practice related to general and special education. 

Desired Qualifications: 
• Substantial knowledge of federal and state education policy, including special education.
• Knowledge of student assessment policy and practice, particular for students with disabilities.
• Demonstrated success in conducting and overseeing rigorous research in the field of education.
• Demonstrated experience in business development.
• Demonstrated staff and budget management skills.
