Summary

This position is part of the Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The incumbent serves as the senior Joint Staff Traffic Manager and Transportation Policy advisor and consultant in the Directorate for Logistics (J4), providing support to the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS) and Offices of the Secretary of Defense (OSD).

Responsibilities

As a TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST at the GS-2130-14 some of your typical work assignments may include:
  • Provides recommended policy and operational courses of action to the CJCS and the J4 on all aspects of DoD transportation and mobility operations.
  • Independently formulates strategies and develops the Joint Staff's position on issues related to DoD, CCMDs, other military services, NATO and coalition partners, and commercial transportation industry and executes assignments under administrative program direction.
  • Provides expert advice of all aspects of transportation and distribution practices, policies, and procedures within DoD.
  • Represents the Joint Staff at configuration and portfolio management boards, user group conferences, integrated process team meetings and briefings to senior level DoD policy makers on developmental and managerial issues concerning the DoD transportation systems.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-14, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service:
  • Applying expert knowledge of all transportation and traffic management issues related to deployment and distribution process improvement, transportation and traffic management policy, supply chain dynamics, implementation of new logistics technology, and analytic ability and sustainment capability studies;
  • Developing traffic management and transportation concepts, practices, policies, and procedures that ensure that Defense-related agencies operate effectively and efficiently throughout the joint logistics enterprise;
  • Maintaining Agency focus on the effectiveness of overseas contingency operations. Evaluates force flow plans to ensure timeliness of deployment and redeployment actions;
  • Applying In-depth knowledge, experience of, and understanding of the processes and policies of U.S. Transportation Command and its responsibilities in accordance with the Unified Command Plan (UCP) to formulate policies recommending courses of action on traffic management, transportation, deployment and distribution
