Job Description:

The Bilingual Parent Resource Specialist works closely with the public and ACPS staff, including parents, students, EL Office staff, Central Office department staff, and school-based staff. The Bilingual Parent Resource Specialist supports the work of the Bilingual Parent Resource Coordinator in the EL Office, and assists linguistically and culturally diverse families in the school registration process.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Graduation from college, or equivalent education and experience that includes working with linguistically and culturally diverse families.

Experience: Successful previous experience working as an employee or as a volunteer in a linguistically and culturally diverse school system or similar environment.

  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish, Amharic or Arabic: verbal and written skills with ability to interpret and translate from one to another.
  • Ability to determine and assess confidential material, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Dependability and punctuality in attendance.
  • Physical ability to perform the essential functions of the job.

Essential Functions:

  • Supports linguistically and culturally diverse families in the student registration process. Explains registration requirements, reviews documentation, assists with completion of forms, and helps families troubleshoot and complete enrollment requirements by providing resources and guidance.
  • Creates flyers and assists in maintaining and updating parent resource folders and ensures the resources are offered in multiple languages by submitting translation requests as needed.
  • Assists registrars by scheduling in person registration appointments, calling families to confirm appointments and to provide resources over the phone and by following up with families who have pending documents for registration.
  • Supports the Bilingual Parent Resource Coordinator in working to meet non-academic needs of students and families including connecting families to community resources such as local charities, adult ESL programs, community health centers, libraries and neighborhood recreation facilities.
  • Provides office and integrated technology support to the EL Office including periodic data entry, answering phone calls, copying and filing student records, and other duties as needed.

  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
  • Tuberculosis Skin Test.
