Financial and Operational Services (FOS) manages AARP's multi-year financial planning, budgeting and forecasting; treasury and investments; tax reporting and planning; and accounting and financial reporting activities. The division provides project management and training and support for the systems used to manage AARP's money and assets.
Summary

This a senior, individual contributor level position within the Procurement and Contract Management organization. This position will report to the Manager, Procurement. The position is anticipated to support one of AARP's four major spend categories and to provide secondary support for at least one other spend category. This position will be responsible for executing on category management strategies and for using strategic sourcing methodologies and contracting expertise to enable procurement actions.
Responsibilities

The Senior Analyst is responsible for:
  1. Supporting category management efforts in one of AARP's four main spend areas: (a) Print; (b) IT; (c) Marketing and Advertising, or; (d) Professional Services (each category is over $100 million in annual spend) and providing support in a secondary spend category. Preferred subject matter expertise in social media/digital business platforms as well as marketing, media and advertising spend areas.
  2. Providing procurement, strategic sourcing and contracting subject matter expertise in primary area of responsibility and having working knowledge of and exposure to the remaining categories.
  3. Collaborating with Procurement and business unit leadership to contribute to annual category management strategies as well as subcategory plans where applicable, that include an annual sourcing calendar, a supply market overview, summary of business needs and cost drivers, and current supply-base overview (complete with listing of expiring agreements and plan of action).
  4. Employing formalized strategic sourcing methodology (7-step process) to enable procurement actions, negotiating favorable terms and conditions in contractual documents, drafting comprehensive statements of work, and managing and maintaining complete contract/procurement documents and records.
  5. Critically assessing information gathered from multiple sources, reconciling conflicts, distilling high-level information into actionable details and insights, analyzing spend and other sourcing/contracting data, recognizing trends and drawing reasonable strategies and tactics based on data analytics.
  6. Leading large, complex strategic sourcing projects and contract negotiations with skill, confidence and independence, delivering high quality work products in accordance with Procurement best practices, procedures and standards.
  7. Meeting annual category management objectives and targets related to spend under management, spend under contract, spend through approved buying channels, supplier management, cost savings and other efficiencies.
  8. Cultivating key business unit relationships, driving innovation and continuous improvement, and providing exceptional customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
  9. Maintaining compliance with AARP procurement policies, processes and procedures, producing high-quality work products, demonstrating accountability, taking appropriate ownership and showing pride in your work.
Requirements

The ideal candidate for this role will possess a college degree and 5 or more years of relevant procurement experience in strategic sourcing, contracting and category management - preferably with the majority in the private sector, with more than $50 million in managed spend.

They must understand and be able to apply category management concepts and frameworks.

The candidate must show demonstrated leadership and a customer service mindset, and a deep understanding of both the source-to-contract and procure-to-pay segments of procurement operations.

They need to have experience working with one or more e-procurement technologies, and be adept at leading and managing sourcing events including creating sourcing documents (RFx, evaluation matrices, sourcing plans, kick-off decks, etc.).

Experience negotiating with major IT/Marketing providers such as MediaCom, Merkle, Google, Facebook, etc. as well as demonstrated experience and understanding of Agile services, licensing models, platform agreements, data privacy concepts and media buying strategies.

Additionally, the candidate must demonstrate strong analytical skills and comfort with data manipulation and analysis to solve problems. Key competencies include: leadership; problem solving skills, multiple category subject matter expertise; deep strategic sourcing and contract negotiations experience; relationship management skills, executive presence, and; both analytical and strategic thinking.
