Responsibilities

You will serve as the Branch Chief of the Lethal Mechanisms Branch of the Lethality Division of the Weapons and Materials Research Directorate, Combat Capabilities Development Command Army Research Laboratory. Utilize extensive knowledge of terminal ballistics, kinetic and chemical energy munitions, warhead technologies, lethality computational modeling, direct fire experimentation, advanced instrumentation and diagnostics, soft material defeat technologies, and advanced armor defeat mechanisms to communicate/coordinate highly complex Research and Development efforts. Identify technological challenges associated with the science of terminal ballistics, kinetic and chemical energy munitions, warhead technologies, lethality computational modeling, direct fire experimentation, advanced instrumentation and diagnostics, soft material defeat technologies, and advanced armor defeat mechanisms in order to provide the Army with the fundamental scientific and engineering capabilities to achieve desired results. Lead and oversee basic and applied research in terminal ballistics, lethality modeling and analysis, soft and hard armor defeat mechanisms, and advanced instrumentation and diagnostics technologies to represent the laboratory with planning development programs. Utilize supervisory or leadership experience and authority to plan for and make changes in the organization of work to achieve efficient and economical operations within allowable costs, staffing level, and policies.

Basic Requirement for an Supervisory General Physical Scientist
A. Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.

OR

B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to one of the majors, as shown in A above, that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Basic Requirement for an Supervisory Physicist
A. Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in physics, or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics. The courses must have included a fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, courses in any two of the following: electricity and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics, modern physics, and sound.

B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The courses must have included a fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, courses in any two of the following: electricity and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics, modern physics, and sound.

Basic Requirement for an Supervisory Chemist
A. Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in the physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.

OR

B. Combination of Education and Experience: Course work equivalent to a major in the physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Basic Requirement for an Supervisory Mathematician
A. Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in mathematics; or a degree with the equivalent of a major that included at least 24 semester hours in mathematics. The total course work must have included differential and integral calculus and, in addition, four advanced mathematics courses requiring calculus or equivalent mathematics courses as a prerequisite.

B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in mathematics (including at least 24 semester hours in mathematics), plus appropriate experience or additional education. The total course work must have included differential and integral calculus and, in addition, four advanced mathematics courses requiring calculus or equivalent mathematics courses as a prerequisite.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes in ((1) supervisory (including execution of all human resource activities and responsibilities associated with a supervisory position); (2) research, development, and transition of ARL technologies associated with the science of terminal ballistics, kinetic and chemical energy munitions, warhead technologies, lethality computational modeling, direct fire experimentation, advanced instrumentation and diagnostics, soft material defeat technologies, and advanced armor defeat mechanisms; (3) application of engineering/scientific skills to advance state of the art of terminal ballistics, lethality modeling and analysis, soft and hard armor defeat mechanisms, and advanced instrumentation and diagnostics technologies and capabilities, and (4) the ability to communicate/coordinate multidisciplinary and highly complex Research and Development efforts. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (DB-03/GS-13 or higher)
