Responsibilities

  • Prepares detailed construction drawings for complex engineering projects provides direct field assistance for conservation practice implementation and quality assurance.
  • Utilizes CADD and incorporates maps and data into project documents including technical details, schematics, three-dimensional models, preliminary construction drawings and final construction drawings.
  • Provides technical support and training leadership for construction inspection and adaptation and standardization of global positioning system (GPS) and computer-aided drafting and design (CADD) technology and transfer to NRCS state and field use.
  • Performs engineering surveys utilizing state-of-the-art global positioning system (GPS) technologies.
  • Provides civil engineering technician field assistance in support of NRCS conservation activities.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.

Time in grade: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade to be considered for the next higher grade (e.g. one year at the GS-09 grade level for consideration for the GS-10 grade level).

Specialized Experience at the GS-10 level: To qualify for the GS-10 level, you must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level or higher in Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. This experience must include experience that has equipped you with the necessary competencies to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples of specialized experience include:
  • Providing technical assistance, working with landowners, groups, and units of government to apply and maintain a variety of conservation practices;
  • Designing engineering practices, and preparing engineering drawings, and;
  • Preparing cost estimates and provides technical assistance on initial planning, design and construction inspection.
Note: There is no education substitution for the GS-10 level.

  • Physical Demands: Some of the work is performed in an office setting. Work Environment: Work involves exposure to moderate risks and discomforts while working in outdoor conditions involving exposure to rain and cold/hot weather in order to complete field work. Safety clothing may be required. Work performed in an office setting is in an area that is adequately lighted, ventilated, and climate controlled.

Required Documents
