Administrative Assistant and Office Manager, Department of Statistics

The George Mason University Department of Statistics, within the Volgenau School of Engineering, seeks a proactive, organized, responsible, responsive, adaptive, and self-reliant professional to be the office manager and administrative assistant to the Department Chair. Responsibilities: This position reports to the chair of the Department of Statistics and serves as his/her administrative assistant. Duties include scheduling and support of the department chair, management of the department office, and administrative support of the department's research and academic programs.

Specific duties: * Correspondence, scheduling, travel arrangements, and screening calls for the department chair; * Administrative support to adjunct faculty and full-time graduate assistants, including letters of appointment; * Managing department office, including tracking and ordering supplies and equipment, collecting and maintaining all records, and placing textbook orders; * Responding to student requests and queries; * Managing and scheduling travel for department visitors, including faculty candidates; * Processing student and faculty contracts; * Monitoring and reconciling the department's budget; * Acting as the department's course scheduler; * Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: * Effectively prioritize work assignments and manage time efficiently; * Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal), customer service skills, diplomacy skills, and the ability to work with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community; * Self-motivated with an ability to multi-task as needed and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment; * Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, including word processing, spreadsheets, and email applications; * Willingness to learn new electronic systems for admissions, scheduling, workflow, accounting, travel and room booking, etc.; * Willingness to learn and adapt to new technology; * Accounting experience with interpretation of expenditures in accounts payable and receivable; * Ability to foster positive working relationships.

Preferred Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree or equivalent with three years of experience in office and financial management; * Knowledge of university procedures, policies, and regulations.
