This position encompasses all duties of a level I and II plumber. Performs minor to complex maintenance and service as needed to support ongoing
facility operations that are initiated through work requests or as dispatched by the control room, call center, or a member of management in accordance with Hospital standards. Perform installations, equipment assembly, troubleshooting, repairs of all plumbing related equipment and maintains general building systems and structure. Installs and repairs domestic water piping as well as heating water loops, sewer lines, and steam piping and valves as needed. Un-clogs sinks, commodes, waste hoppers, drainage lines as directed. This position should have a strong working knowledge of backflow preventers, polypropylene piping and acid waste systems. This position will be required to perform routine to complex installation, repair , and maintenance on Medical Gas Piping, outlets, headwall, pumping systems, and alarm systems.
Responds to all requests in order of priority and assists both with routine-to-complex request on an as needed basis. This position will be responsible for the ordering and the procurement up of any and all materials needed to carry out job functions. Ensures smooth transition of responsibilities to next shift. Responds to all hospital emergencies including but not limited to leaks, odors and fire alarms. Ensures that repairs and new installation are compliant with current plumbing codes. Reports all concerns to the designated specialist or manager. Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to operate hospital vehicles. This position may be subject to variable hours or shifts. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands or fingers to handle or feel, reach with hands and or arms and to talk and hear. The employee is required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. The employee must lift and or move up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications

Minimum Education
High School Diploma or GED

Specific Requirements and Preferences
Trade or Tech School in Plumbing or Med Gas, (Preferred)

Minimum Work Experience
5 years
5 years

Specific Requirements and Preferences
Related and responsible experience with the plumbing trade; Working knowledge of all applicable EP A & OSHA standards related to the position. (Required)
Related and responsible experience within the plumbing in healthcare (Preferred)

Required Skills/Knowledge
Expertise in the area of specialty.
Strong knowledge of the Plumbing Code.
Math Ability: basic algebra.
Frequent bend/stoop, sit, stand/walk and reach 8-12 hrs.
Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull >40 PC Operating System and mobile work entry devices.
Proficient knowledge of Intranet, some Microsoft Offices Suites (Word, Excel). Familiarity with automated work order systems.
Customer Service Skills, calculator and copy machine.

Functional Accountabilities

Quality Assurance
1. Take initiative to identify and report deficiencies in the physical plant of the hospital.
2. Diagnose and resolve trouble ticket/work orders thoroughly until completed.
3. Follow-up with requestor after completion of a work order to ensure problem has been corrected.
4. Utilize all safety measures as related to work orders and specific task.

Plumbing Competencies
1. Conduct safety checks throughout the hospital complex.
2. Perform minor to complex repairs to general use plumbing fixtures to include but not limited to sinks, toilets and showers. Replaces valves, washers and fixtures.
3. Repair and replace all types of plumbing associated piping to include but not limited to copper, cast, galvanized, polypropylene and specialized systems; include steam, gas, water , fuel, medical gas, laboratory , and specialized piping systems.
4. Identify material and tool needed to carry out job function; make sure purchase orders and reports are legible, accurate, complete and on time.
5. Make sure all plumbing work is completed with codes by the governing body having jurisdiction.
6. Establish and ensure compliance with work schedules.
7. Maintain septic system include un-clogging of drains and drainage pipe.
8. Maintain, install, and repair all aspects of the Medical Gas System; include valves, alarm systems, pumps, tanks and headwall devices.
9. Maintain relief valves for all systems.

Corrective and Preventive Maintenance
1. Study blueprints and diagrams to ascertain layout, location and specifications of items to be installed.
2. Perform corrective maintenance on equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
3. Perform preventive maintenance of plumbing system in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
4. Troubleshoot plumbing equipment and systems to determine functional and structural problems.
5. Maintain corrective tickets; PM cards, project sheets and status board up-to-date.
