Summary

This position is located in the Legal Division, Resolution and Receivership Branch, of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and provides support in the areas of performing secretarial, administrative and technical support duties in connection with the management of the office.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Deputy General Counsel and provides support to other Sections or Units within the Branch by performing a variety of secretarial administrative and technical support duties in connection with the management of the Branch's Sections or Units, and ensuring that the overall operations and general control environment of the Branch, Sections or Units, is functioning in the most efficient and effective manner.
  • Performs routine research on select topics/issues in support of programs, as directed by the supervisor or other professional staff.
  • Receiving inquiries via telephone, in person, or in writing and determines the identity of the individual and the issue/purpose for making contact. When possible, personally addresses the issue or refers it to the manager or other members of the staff.
  • Prepares and types in final form letters, memoranda, reports and correspondence, which may include matters of a confidential or sensitive nature.
  • Establishes and maintains records, files, and work papers both in hard copy and electronic forms, for the immediate use of staff.
  • Assisting in tasks common to the Branch, Section, or Units as a whole, such as mail distribution, filing, telephone coverage, procurement of supplies, and making travel arrangements.

Qualifications

Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious/spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. CG-07: To qualify, applicants must have completed at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the 06 grade level or above in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as assisting with performing administrative assignments using automated systems to retrieve, track and report data; preparing and typing memoranda/documents; and maintaining office files.

CG-08: To qualify, applicants must have completed at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the 07 grade level or above in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as performing administrative assignments using automated systems to retrieve, track and report data; preparing and typing memoranda/documents; and maintaining office files.

Applicants must have met the qualification requirements (including selective placement factors - if any) for this position within 30 calendar days of the closing date of this announcement.

  • Skill in handling assignments requiring accuracy, attention to detail, and producing quality work
    under tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of current mainframe, micro and PC-based software applications used in the Section; and skill in their use to input, update, and maintain data and generate various reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally with all levels of management and employees, and the ability to display well-balanced judgment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing with all levels of management and employees, and the ability to display well-balanced judgment.
  • Knowledge of current administrative programs, policies, and procedures, including, but not limited to: time and attendance reporting, travel, correspondence preparation and routing, mail services, records management retention and disposal, and procurement of office supplies and special services.
