Job SummaryResponsible for the strategic vision, development and implementation of programs and initiatives that promote well-being for nursing associates throughout the MedStar Health system. The Director will cultivate an environment conducive to optimizing the experience of providing competent, compassionate nursing care, with a focus on creating programming that helps mitigate the factors of concurrent stress, burnout, vicarious trauma, and compassion fatigue. The position serves as content expert for individual and program-based interventions to develop the well-being and resilience skills of nursing associates, while contributing to the systems response to workplace stress and pressures The position is responsible for establishing, tracking, and reporting metrics specific to nursing activities to the system Chief Nursing Officer and the system Chief Wellness Officer. The position is responsible for integrating nursing well-being activities within the framework of the MedStar Health system Wellness Program. Minimum QualificationsEducation/Training:Bachelors degree in nursing. Masters degree in nursing or health-care related field. Experience:8 years in health-care related activities, to include 3 years in a leadership or management role. License/Cert/Reg:Registered Nurse licensure in DC or Maryland. Certification in relevant practice/role domain, or secured within 6 months of hireKnowledge, Skills & Abilities:Knowledgeable of multiple care environments in which nurses practice and the contributions those environments have to nurses well-being. Ability to independently and objectively assess situations, solutions and barriers to implementation of change. Utilize project management skills and vision to support the mission of well-being. High emotional intelligence.Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesDevelops department goals, objectives, policies, and procedures. Ensures compliance with relevant business unit policies and procedures and governmental regulations and accreditation standards.Assesses the needs of MedStar nursing associates through well-being survey data, focus groups, interviews, and ongoing communications with key stakeholder including, but not limited to, nursing, human resources, behavioral health and physician/provider well-being leadership. Develops, coordinates and implements the administration and management of all nursing associate well-being programs and initiatives under the guidance of the system Chief Nursing Officer and Chief Wellness Officers. Manages new and ongoing programs designed to support overall system-wide nursing associates well-being including the design, administration, cost/benefit analysis, budgeting, and measurement of outcomes. Ensures coordination, synergy and integration with system wide associate wellness activities supported through the office of the Chief Wellness Officer. Reviews and monitors programs and initiatives targeted for nursing associates based on established quantitative and qualitative metrics and implements quality improvement interventions from identified trends and opportunities. Serves as a liaison, in coordination with human resources, to nursing associates and nursing leaders to access available system behavioral health and well-being resources such as Care for the Caregiver and Employee Assistance Programs (EAP).Cultivates ongoing communications and relationships with each CNO of the Medstar Hospital Entites and diversified businesses where nurses practice.Communicates directly with nurses throughout the system by rounding, newsletters, scheduled meetings, focus groups, chatrooms and other social media outlets.Assesses current and emerging nursing wellness and work life programs and develops training and educational activities based on acceptance of these programs. Contributes to the marketing and communications of the overall wellness programs and specific nursing initiatives to support participation, adoption activities and improved sense of well-being by Medstar nurses.Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and business unit in community outreach efforts.Performs other duties as assigned.About MedStar Health MedStar Health is dedicated to providing the highest quality care for people in Maryland and the Washington, DC, region, while advancing the practice of medicine through education, innovation and research.
