Summary

The Congressional Budget Office is a small nonpartisan agency that provides economic and budgetary analysis to the U.S. Congress. CBO seeks a labor economist to conduct research and analysis on topics of interest to the Congress, including all aspects of labor markets and how public policies affect them. CBOs recently completed work includes reports on the effects of an increase in the minimum wage on employment and family income, the employment of foreign-born people, and the Long-Term Budge

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will use data to conduct economic analyses and write CBO reports and testimonies. Staff members are encouraged to actively participate in the policy research community by presenting papers at conferences, publishing articles in professional journals, and circulating preliminary research through CBOs series of working papers.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Tier Two Background Investigation

Qualifications

Strong quantitative skills, including experience with large data sets;
Exceptional oral and written communication skills, especially the ability to clearly explain analytic results to other CBO and Congressional staff and Members of Congress;
Ability to initiate and complete research projects both independently and collaboratively;
Facility with handling multiple projects simultaneously, often under tight deadlines; and
A desire to contribute directly to the analysis of federal policy in a nonpartisan setting.

Education

EDUCATION:

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in economics or a related field, or a masters degree in economics or a related field with a minimum of five years of relevant work experience.
