Summary

This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration, Office of Research Services, Electronic Records Division, Processing Branch. As a Supervisory Archivist, you will be responsible for assisting in the planning, directing, coordinating, and controlling all of the archival functions of the employees assigned to the subgroup of the Branch. You will manage the functions of the subgroup of the Branch in an integrated manner.

Responsibilities

As a SUPERVISORY ARCHIVIST, you will:

- Organize, develop, and implement multiple projects relating to the establishment of physical and intellectual control over permanently valuable electronic records transferred to the legal custody of the Archivist of the United States and the physical custody of the Office of Research Services.
- Plan and schedule the work of subordinate staff; make assignments based on priorities, consideration of the difficulty and the requirements of the work, and the capabilities of the employees.
- Provide support and assistance to all staff in the Processing Branch and conduct first-tier review of their completed processing and description work.
- Assist with assessing staff's training needs and identifying and/or developing suitable training.
- Perform the administrative and human resource management functions relative to the staff supervised.
- Participate in planning the work of the unit, including formulating goals and objectives and identifying opportunities in methods, workflow, and procedures.

  • Qualifications

    You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.

    To be qualified for this position at the GS-13 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience for this position includes:

    -Experience leading a team, program, or project; AND

    -Utilizing archival principles relating to holding security, reference, processing, reformatting, and accessioning concepts or laws, to provide advice and guidance to management relative to incorporating program strategies and goals into operational processes and work plans; AND

    -Managing multiple priorities. Examples of such assignments may include responding to inquiries, reviewing reports, recognizing errors, and reconciling problems.


    In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
    For the GS-13, you must have been at the GS-12level for 52 weeks.

    Education

    Education Requirements:

    Applicants who meet the basic requirements described in the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) are fully qualified for the specified entry grade (generally grade GS-5). Applicants who wish to qualify for positions at higher grade levels (generally grade GS-7 and above) must also meet the requirements shown in the table on page IV-A-22, in addition to meeting the basic requirements.

    A. Bachelor's degree in archival science or bachelor's degree with a major that includes 18 semester hours in archival science, history and/or in political science or government, and 12 semester hours in one or any combination of the following: archival science, history, American civilization, economics, political science, public administration, or government.

    OR
    B. Combination of education and experience - at least 30 semester hours that included courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education


    The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
