The Navigation and Mission Design Branch at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center is currently seeking interested candidates for the position of Associate Branch Head in Code 595. This position supports the Branch Head and Division management in managing a branch of flight dynamics engineers.

  • Responsibilities include working with the Branch Head to plan, implement, direct, and coordinate Branch activities aligned with NASA's and GSFC's strategic implementation plans.
  • Assists in maintaining technical and administrative oversight of the Branch and conduct periodic reviews of the core capability of the branch: navigation, trajectory design, conjunction assessment, operations, and technology development.
  • Performs the administrative and human resource management functions relative to the staff Supervised, oversee training, and ensure communication to the branch.
  • Establish guidelines and performance expectations for staff members, clearly communicate them through the formal employee performance management system, observe and critique employee performance, and provide informal feedback periodically.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Education Requirement, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-13), which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.

Specialized experience includes serving as a technical expert with a leadership role, leading efforts for a spacecraft related project in the areas of spacecraft mission design and/or navigation.

Education

Basic Education Requirement: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major study in engineering, physical science, mathematics, life sciences, computer science, or other field of science. Degrees in engineering technology are not considered to be qualifying for this position.

U.S. Engineering degrees must have been awarded from a college or university school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Foreign Engineering degrees must be recognized by a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA), often known as accords. These are non-governmental agreements among organizations that accredit academic degree programs.
